Jio 5G services have started rolling out in India. The service has been introduced in some regions of India as of now but the telecom giant claims to bring the 5G services to every nook and corner of the country by the end of 2023. Jio 5G is claimed to give the highest internet speeds. Read on to know everything about it.

Q. What is Jio 5G?

The Jio 5G is a standalone-based 5th-generation cellular connectivity that claims to give better speed and latency. The network is said to be a non-standalone network relying on the existing 4G infrastructure to give 5G services. The SA 5G is built from the ground up and does not rely on existing infrastructure.

Q. In which cities are Jio 5G made available?

Jio 5G is made available in Mumbai, Kolkata, Varanasi, and Delhi now. If you have a 5G smartphone and fall under Jio’s selected cities for the 5G rollout, then you need to be enrolled in the invite-based trial program known as the ‘Jio Welcome Offer’ to use 5G services.

Q. What is the ‘Jio Welcome Offer’?

One has to be enrolled in the invite-based ‘Jio Welcome Offer’ to use 5G services. Those who will get the invite will be able to use Jio 5G data with up to 1Gbps+ speed. These customers will be upgraded to the Jio True 5G service without changing their existing SIM or 5G handset.

Q. How to activate Jio 5G on your phone?

Enable 5G on your compatible smartphones. This is done by going to the phone’s settings. Step by step guide is given in further FAQs.

Q. What are the steps to activate Jio 5G on Android phones?

  • Open the Settings app on your phone. Find and select Mobile Network or a similar setting.
  • Select the Jio SIM you want to enable 5G on. Select the Preferred Network type option.
  • Select the option that says 5G. You will see a 5G symbol on the status bar that will indicate that 5G has been activated on your phone.

Q. What are the steps to activate Jio 5G on iPhone?

  • Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
  • Next, go to the Cellular menu within the settings.
  • From here select Cellular Data Options.
  • To activate 5G, tap on Voice and Data option and either select 5G Auto or 5G On Option.
  • Your iPhone will connect to a 5G network when available and you will see a 5G symbol on the status bar which indicates 5G services have been enabled.

Q.  How to check if your smartphone is 5G ready?

Check the retail box or packaging of your smartphone for any 5G text. To be double sure, check Google for the same.

If your smartphone does support 5G, then check if the bands mentioned on the box are supported by Jio’s 5G bands in your city/circle.

Q. Do you need a new SIM to use Jio 5G services?

Jio has confirmed that users can continue to use the existing 4G SIMs and whenever 5G goes live, they can enable it on their phones.

Q. How to access Jio’s 5G service on your smartphone?

Jio subscribers, both prepaid and postpaid need to have a plan that costs Rs. 239 or higher to be able to access Jio’s True 5G network. Then they can use Jio Welcome Offer to access 5G.
