Range Rover fans rejoice as Jaguar Land Rover has started manufacturing the luxury SUV in India. The move will help the company increase its presence in the subcontinent and, perhaps, reduce the vehicle’s on-road cost in India.
Range Rover To Be Made In JLR’s Pune Facility
Although the global production of the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport models takes place in the Solihull plant in the United Kingdom, Jaguar Land Rover will utilize its manufacturing plant in Pune to begin with local production. This way, the global production unit will take care of international demand, and the Indian plant will assemble vehicles based on the requirement in the country.

The Decision Will Help JLR Reduce Prices Significantly
But why did Jaguar Land Rover decide to do so? Well, the change in manufacturing strategy is fueled by a 160 percent increase in vehicle sales in the country (in the current fiscal year). As and when JLR starts manufacturing Range Rover (regular and Sport) in India, customers will benefit from reduced waiting times.
Last but definitely not least, the Indian-made Range Rover models should cost less than the imported versions. Once the locally manufactured units are available, the prices of the currently available models should go down by 18 to 22 percent.

Currently, the most affordable model in India is Evoque, which starts at Rs. 68 lakh (ex-showroom). Then there’s Velar, which costs around Rs. 88 lakhs (ex-showroom), and Sport, which costs around Rs. 1.4 crore (ex-showroom), and the New Range Rover, which costs around Rs. 2.4 crore (ex-showroom).
