While the majority of political leaders around the world get chauffeured in luxurious armored vehicles, there are rarely any instances of such luxurious electric vehicles that are in use. Looks like India is set to take a step forward in this regard, as the Government is planning to upgrade PM Modi’s official car to an EV vehicle. The move is being considered a part of ‘leading by example’ as the government has been pushing the consumers to adopt EVs to reduce card footprint and limit their dependency on fossil fuels.

PM Modi’s current official car

PM Modi is currently using the Mercedes Maybach S650 Guard, and before that the official cars were Range Rover Vogue and a Toyota Land Cruiser for the last few years. Now, PM Modi is looking to upgrade to an electric car and if this happens, it will be the first for any Indian leader. Currently, PM Modi is seen in the passenger seat of the Land Cruiser instead of a Maybach while traveling for high-level meetings.

Mercedes Benz EQS luxury EV SUV to replace the current Mercedes Maybach S650?

Reports claim that the PMO is in talks to replace the current Mercedes Maybach S650 with a nature-friendly Mercedes EQS Luxury EV SUV. Current Maybach is certified to provide VR10 level protection, which means that the car can sustain bullets from AK47, a blast of 15KG TNT from a distance of 2m, and protect the inhabitants from bio weaponry. It costs around 12 crores and weighs over 5400 kgs.

A worthy replacement needs to match the level of security and luxury and offer new-age technology with concern for the environment. The new Mercedes Benz EQS luxury is an electrified alternative to the S-Class Mercedes for now as the cars from newer brands cannot be relied upon completely.

The EQS SUV would give a commanding road presence to the PMO along with high ground clearance and good visibility. The new EV will obviously be upgraded well over any standard car and be agile to make any necessary getaways if need be. Weight will increase as well because Electric vehicles are generally heavier than ordinary cars. This is because of massive battery packs along with all the high-grade security features that will be added to PMO’s official car.
