Top-of-the-line iPhone 15 Ultra is in the works, says Mark Gurman

As we are well into 2023, the smartphone industry is gearing up for new flagships launching this year. Apple too is working round the clock for the upcoming iPhone 15 series launching sometime in October. More importantly, it will be keeping the series under wrap but that hasn’t stopped leaks. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman’s latest offerings suggest Apple is likely to slot in an ‘Ultra’ model in the iPhone 15 series likely to debut early next year.

If you remember, Gurman’s previous details include that Apple is likely to replace iPhone 15 Pro Max moniker with iPhone 15 Ultra. Turns out the latest update suggests there’s a separate model dubbed iPhone 15 Ultra in the works. It is targeted towards those user bases that want the best in the category.

The details coincide with Tim Cook – Apple CEO, that iPhones have become integral in people’s lives. He further added that people are ready to stretch a bit more to get their hands on the finest model they can afford. It is likely a hint towards the top-of-the-line iPhone 15 Ultra that’ll speculatively dwarf iPhone 15 Pro Max.

We are yet to see how Apple ends up differentiating between the models though. It is already reported that Apple iPhone 15/Plus and iPhone 15 Pro/Max duos will already have distinct features whereas the latter will get some exclusive features. iPhone 15 Ultra will likely get better features such as a faster chipset, removal of charging port, and so on.

iPhone 15 lineup has already made headlines to opt for Wi-Fi 6 on iPhone 15 and 15 Plus while the Pro models will get Wi-Fi 6E. There’s also the speculation that Pro Max will get an exclusive periscope camera lens that might not make the cut on lower variants but Ultra is out of the picture. Other distinctions that Pro variants will get are increased RAM, solid-state buttons on the side with haptic feedback, and a titanium frame.

Samsung launched its Galaxy S23 series while OnePlus will launch the flagship OnePlus 11 5G on February 7th followed by flagships from brands like Xiaomi, Oppo, and Huawei among others.

Apart from being better, the reported iPhone 15 Ultra will also carry a price tag that is pricier than Pro Max. The 2022’ iPhone 14 Pro Max (base variant) carried a price tag of $1,099 in the US which means we could see a considerable uptick in Ultra’s pricing.
