Indian Railways’ New Android App Launched; Aims At Ease In E-ticketing, Improvement In E-security

Railway Minister Mr. Suresh Prabhu unveiled the new passenger mobile application named as the IRCTC Rail Connect App today. The Android-based application is aimed at easing the ticketing process through digital transactions and will replace the existing IRCTC mobile application.

“Currently e-ticketing system caters to over 10 lakh passengers daily (comprising 58% of total reserved passengers). And to increase the ease to users, a new Android-based mobile application for reserved booking IRCTC Rail Connect has been developed,” Prabhu said.

The new app also intends to redeem the shortcomings of the previous app, such as inadequacies in data, slow response time as well as suboptimal security levels.

Replete with new and improved features, the Rail Connect app would also be integrated with the IRCTC e-wallet to ensure faster and smoother transactions. It will also support and make adequate measures for general, ladies, Tatkal and Premium-Tatkal quota.

Prabhu was quick to highlight the application’s features and said: “Rail Connect has been developed to bring the power of next generation e-ticketing system like high performance and enhanced security.”

The Rail Connect app will cater to the comfort and make things easier for them with features like 24/7 service without any time-based tabs, simple user interface and assigning of PIN to login for added security.

Furthermore, Prabhu elucidated that it will allow the users to view and/or cancel the tickets booked through the old app. As far as transactions are concerned, the Rail Connect app will provide payment gateway to over 40 banks for safe and secure payments through net Banking, credit or debit cards and wallets like Paytm, PayU, Mobikwik.

The app will also be inter-connected with the IRCTC food and air mobile applications in order to facilitate flight bookings and booking of food through e-catering services.
