Huawei took the veil off of its new foldable smartphone named Mate X2. Unlike its predecessors, Huawei Mate X2 employs a different folding mechanism for inward design as we were expecting. The hinge mechanism is similar to the Samsung Galaxy Fold lineup.

The highlights of Huawei Mate X2 are – OLED screen with a 90Hz refresh rate, Kirin 9000 SoC, 8 GB RAM, 512GB ROM, and a 50MP quadruple-camera setup.

Huawei Mate X2 Specifications

Huawei Mate X2 features a 6.45-inch display on the exterior and an 8-inch interior screen. Both panels are OLED with a 90Hz refresh rate. While the former has 2700x1160p resolution, latter has 2480x2200p resolution. The phone has a wedge-shaped design. Whilst unfolded, one side is thicker than the other as it holds the periscope camera system. Meanwhile, the thinner side is just 4.4mm thick.

As for the lenses, Huawei Mate X2 boasts four camera sensors at the back. It includes a 50MP main camera with the support of Optical Image Stabilization (OIS), a 16MP ultra-wide camera, a 12MP telephoto sensor with 3X optical zoom supporting OIS, and an 8MP super zoom lens with OIS and 10X optical zoom. The front camera is installed inside a pill-shaped cutout with a 16MP shooter.

The processing on the Mate X2 is handled by an octa-core Huawei Kirin 9000 chipset paired with a Mali-G78 GPU, 8GB RAM, and 256/512GB ROM. The internal storage can be expandable up to 256GB via Huawei’s Nano MMC.

Under the hood, Huawei Mate X2 is packing a 4500mAh battery with 55W fast charge support. The new folding phone also brings 5G, 4G, WiFi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, and USB Type-C port for connectivity. The device runs on EMUI 11.0 based on Android 10 (w/o Google Mobile Services and Apps). For what it’s worth, Huawei assures it will be updated to the company’s HarmonyOS in later updates.
