Google last year introduced the Active Edge technology on Pixel 2 (actually borrowed it from HTC) that let you summon Google Assistant by squeezing the edges of the phone. The technology was cool, innovative, and managed to grab enough eyeballs for its seamless experience.

Well, the good news is that you can now experience it on a few other Android phones as well. A developer at XDA, going by username fflokes, has developed an app called SideSqueeze which is close to Pixel’s Active Edge. Using the app, you can trigger any app/service with just a gentle squeeze that would otherwise require a lot of taps/jump around.

*Note: The app is only compatible with water resistant and barometric pressure sensor phones. We tested the app on Galaxy S9+ phone and it worked fine. And as per the developer, it is also compatible with Samsung other devices like Galaxy S8, S8 Plus and Galaxy Note 8.

Here’s How to Get Active Edge Feature on Any Android Phone:

Step 1: Head to Google Play Store and download and install SideSqueeze app on your phone.

Step 2: Once the app is installed, quickly run through the setup process by giving the app access from Accessibility Services and disabling Battery Optimizations for the app.

Step 3: That’s it! You are done. You can now squeeze the edges of the phone to trigger an app or any other function. The app allows you customize the squeeze – you can assign it to any task, and can even adjust the amount of pressure threshold to activate side squeeze feature.

Step 4: To experience more features of the SideSqueeze app like activating squeeze even in screen lock you can purchase the paid version of the app – that will cost you Rs. 130.

The SideSqueeze app is a great app to work around if you want Google Pixel 2-like Active Edge assistant on your phone. And the fun thing is that you can reassign the squeeze feature to trigger other apps and services, instead of just the Google Assistant. However, the app is in its initial stage and you may experience lags and bugs.

Let us know, how you feel about the app and on which phones you tried the app on in the comment section below.
