Contact Posters is a relatively new feature launched by Apple in iOS 17. A part of the default Phone and Contact app, the feature allows users to set up a virtual poster (with their picture and name) that shows up every time one calls another iPhone user. What’s interesting is that you can customize your Contact Poster to look the way you want. For instance, you can set your favorite picture as the poster and change the font with which your name appears.

What Are Contact Posters?

As mentioned earlier, the Contact Poster is your digital representation that shows up on the other user’s screen every time you call them. Since you set the poster in the Contacts app, it also appears (like a profile picture) everytime you share your contact details or send a message to another iPhone user. While you can set up a contact poster using your picture, you can also create one using an avatar (Memoji) generated by iOS.

For those wondering, the Contact Poster you set up appears in the following apps: Contacts, Phone, FaceTime, Messages, and AirDrop. The feature makes it easier for the other user to recognize from a hand’s distance, especially when they aren’t actively using their phone. Now that you know what a Contact Poster is and why you would want to create one, let’s move on to the steps involved in making one from scratch.

How To Create Yourself A Contact Poster?

How to create Contact Poster on iPhone
  • Open the Phone app on your iPhone.
  • Select Contacts at the bottom and choose “My Card” toward the top at the next screen.
  • On the next screen, select “Contact Photo & Poster.” If it’s your first time creating a Contact Poster, the app will give you a quick summary.
  • Hit Continue at the bottom, and enter your name in the required section. You can choose to enter your first name or full name. However, if you leave the name section, your phone number will appear in the Contact Poster.
  • Once you’ve entered the basic information, the app will ask you to choose an image (which you can click from the camera or select from the gallery), a Memoji (a customizable digital avatar), or a Monogram (which displays your initials). Remember that whatever you choose will appear on the receivers’ iPhone every time you call them. As an example, we’ve chosen Photos, but you can choose any of the four options.
  • The app will redirect you to Photos app, where you get to select the image that will appear as a Contact Poster.
  • Once you select a picture, the app will showcase it as a preview, and in the same way, it will show up on the other person’s iPhone.
Steps to create Contact Poster on iPhone
  • Here, you can add filters to the picture by swiping from right to left on the screen. With the selected filter, you can also apply a particular background color that appeals to you the most.
  • You can also use two fingers to pinch and zoom into the image to make sure that it fits the frame. If you’d like the subject to cover the bottom edge of the name, tap on the three-dot icon at the bottom right and enable “Depth Effect.”
  • To change your name’s font style, tap on it and select the typography, size, and color in the menu that appears at the bottom.
  • Once everything looks in place, tap on Done at the top right corner. Following this, you’ll see a complete preview of the Contact Poster, which shows exactly how it will appear on others’ iPhones when you call them. If you wish to make any changes, hit the Back button at the top left. However, if you’re satisfied with the way it looks, tap Continue at the bottom.
  • On the next screen, crop and set your Contact Photo, one that shows up as a profile picture when you send messages or appears next to your name in the Phone app. You’ll get to select from several filters. Tap Continue once you’re done with all the changes.
  • And that’s it. You’ve successfully created a Contact Poster that will remind your friends or family members of you every time you call or text them.
