Honor 8 won’t get Android Oreo, Honor 6X under consideration

Huawei sub-brand, Honor has confirmed that its Honor 8 won’t get Android Oroe update. The company confirmed the news via Honor’s Official Twitter account where it cites Honor 8’s “hardware and software limitations” as the reason for it not getting the latest Android flavor.

On the other hand, for its Honor 6X, Honor is evaluating the possibility to make Android Oreo with latest EMUI 8.0 available as if biw. However, the devices will keep getting the security patches as and when required.

Honor had earlier announced a list of potential devices that will be getting latest EMUI 8.0 based Android Oreo. The list includes Honor 8 Pro, Honor 9i, Honor 7X and Honor 8 Lite along with the P10, Mate 9 and Mate 9 Pro. The Honor 8 was not on the list.

EMUI 8.0

EMUI 8.0 is Huawei’s heavily optimized custom UI. The yearly update brings incremental upgrades to the platform and makes the interaction with the device friendlier.

The EMUI 8.0, according to Huawei, is an AI-powered software. It does a lot of machine learning and integrates features like Intelligent Resource Allocation, Intelligent Context Awareness, User Behaviour, and Intelligent Behaviour Prediction.

Additional features include one-hand operation, navigation dock, customised themes, private space optimisation, compressed Settings menu, accessibility to recently deleted documents, and pinned shortcuts.

Honor 8

As for the device, the Honor 8 was launched back in back in October 2016. It has a 5.2-inch FHD display and is powered by 1.8GHz octa-core Kirin 950 processor coupled with 4GB of RAM and 32GB storage.

For photography, the Huawei Honor 8 packs a dual-rear camera with a 12-megapixel sensor each and an 8-megapixel sensor on the front. The phone packs a 3000mAh battery and has a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor.
