Google’s Instant Tethering now available on more devices

When you don’t have WiFi access, Instant Tethering available on Chrome OS could prove a neat feature. It automatically activates the phone’s hotspot and connects your Pixelbook to the Android device’s mobile data. Previously exclusive to the Pixel smartphones and Google’s Chromebooks, the company has extended the support for more Android devices and Laptops.

We have shared the 15 additional Chromebooks and 30 Android phones getting this feature below.

Instant Tethering requirements

If yours is one of the compatible devices, then simply follow these steps to use the convenience of connected appliances. Also, ensure that both the devices are logged into the same Google account.

  1. First and foremost, pair your Android smartphone to the laptop via Bluetooth.
  2. Next, turn on the Instant Tethering in the “Connected Devices” section of settings.

Voila! now you should be connected. Once paired, your Android phone will show up in the Quick Settings panel. From there, you could see the battery status and network signal of your device.

Google has baked in a nifty feature which automatically disconnects the Chromebook if there is no activity for 10 minutes. One other thing you would notice is the Wi-Fi indicator changes into triangular network indicator.
