Google is all set to roll out a new feature called Instant Tethering for play services 10.2 versions that can be used to connect to other devices via Bluetooth, provided they have logged in using same Google Play account.

In layman’s terms, this version of the Google Play Services will make sure that all your devices are online if you have one Google account for all of them. It would also give you the option to program all of them to create a hotspot connection to a phone which has Internet.

The instant tethering will be active even when the Internet connection goes down and would utilize Bluetooth to facilitate the same, thus ensuring that the users are always online.

Andreas Proschofsky, an Austrian Journalist who got privy to this feature offered by Google, posted a screenshot on his Google+ account and explained as to how it is going to work.

“Basically it works like that: If – say – your tablet has no data connection and you also have a phone connected to the same Google account, it can automatically offer to use the data connection of the phone – zero setup necessary, just a confirmation (well after the initial setup, obviously, you have to agree to use that feature),” he wrote.

So far, Instant Tethering is only accessible to Google’s Nexus and Pixel smartphones that feature Android 7.1.1 Nougat. Also, this allows the Pixel C as well as the Nexus 9 tablets to function as WiFi hotspots.

Along with devices featuring Android Nougat, it is most likely to work fine with devices running on Android 6.0 Marshmallow as well.

It is being speculated that the feature will be out soon although some reports suggest that it may not work for some users straightaway as it is still being tested.
