Gionee will launch a dual screen flip-phone or perhaps dual screen flip-phone smartphone powered by Helio P10 on 29th March, 2016. This reminds us of a similar mishmash from Samsung camp, the Galaxy Golden, which was launched couple of years back for an exorbitant price-tag.
Gionee’s W909 looks similar and will address the same market, i.e. anyone who is accustomed to working with T9 keypad and isn’t big on change. Gionee doesn’t mean this to be cheap either. If reports are to be believed, Gionee W909 will lie within the flagship crop and cost around 41,300 INR.
The handset will have a 16MP front camera and a fingerprint sensor on the back. It’s decisively chunky and heavy (210 grams) especially for a 4.2 inch display phone (there are two of those).
The processor used is Helio P10, which is set to be MediaTek’s most popular silicon this year. It is also the first big.LITTLE chipset from Taiwanese SoC maker and thus is expected to be more power optimized than Helio X10. The 32GB storage variant will have 2GB RAM, while the 64GB variant will have 4GB RAM. Software is Android Lollipop based Amigo UI.
Samsung’s Galaxy Golden obviously didn’t work, and Gionee isn’t doing things differently either. We would like to know what you think. Are Flip-phones cool in 2016? What say?
