BlackBerry added a new smartphone, DTEK60, to its Android portfolio today. If you have been keeping tabs, the name might sound familiar as the DTEK60 closely follows the DTEK50 which the Canadian manufacturer claimed to be “the world’s most secure Android phone”.

The struggling Smartphone manufacturer recently announced that it will be outsourcing hardware manufacturing to its partners and focusing on software. The DTEK60 falls in line with this recent announcement.

Just like the DTEK50, the new phone too lifts an existing TCL or Alcatel design. There is glass on both front and rear sandwiching a layer of metal, a design formula increasingly becoming synonymous to premium construction. Moreover, it’s just 7mm slim, which also explains the bulging camera module.

Specifications-wise, this is perhaps the most reasonably priced smartphone from BlackBerry.

Blackberry DTEK60 includes a 5.5-inch QHD display and is powered by Snapdragon 820 quad-core chipset paired with 4GB RAM and expandable 32GB storage. For photography, there is a 21MP primary rear camera with dual-tone LED flash, f/2.0 aperture, and PDAF.

Other hardware features include a fingerprint sensor, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 ac (2.4GHz + 5GHz), Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, USB Type-C port and 3000mAh battery.

The software is Android Marshmallow with BlackBerry optimizations that make it secure. Everything you store on the phone will be FIPS 140-2 encryption protected, the bootloader is locked and the pre-installed DTEK app further keeps an eye on privacy violations. BlackBerry’s own apps like Hub and Calendar are also present on the device. BlackBerry is also working on Andriod 7.0 Nougat update.

The handset is available for $499 (Approx 33,000 INR) from BlackBerry’s online stores in the US, Canada, UK, France, Germany, Spain, Italy and the Netherlands. Availability details for other countries will be announced in following weeks.
