Like always, soon after the New Year 2020, tech enthusiasts across the globe have set their eyes on Consumer Electronics Show. Better known by its acronym CES is the Kickstarter event for companies to showcase their latest innovation out of the oven. This year’s event is also no different. Starting from Tuesday, 7 January, CES 2020 ends on Friday, 10 January.

Weeks prior to its commencement, media invites, announcements, and rumors made to our inbox and feed. This includes tech giants like Samsung, OnePlus, Xiaomi, Vivo, etc. Interestingly enough, even Apple is said to make an appearance in this year’s event…after 25 years!

So, without any further ado, let’s have a look at the CES 2020 highlights, important dates, biggest announcements, and trends.

CES 2020: Biggest Announcements So Far

CES (Consumer Electronics Show) is organized by the Consumer Technology Association (CTA). According to them, this year the main focus would be upon travel and tourism, data analytics and customer experiences. Beyond this, digital health will be one hot topic of conversation. But, that doesn’t mean mobile tech won’t get any love. As such, here’s a list of products and services that have either announced or are likely to surface on the CES stage or stalls.

OnePlus Concept One

Oneplus fans had a good year with many choices. The brand finally entered flagship turf with the OnePlus 7(T) Pro. We also witnessed the OnePlus TV. And lately, the rumor mill has been quite noisy about the OnePlus 8 series. We expect 3 phones – the standard, the Pro and this time around a Lite too! There is a likeliness to see the OnePlus 8 Lite at CES 2020.

However, the mystic stuff is the OnePlus Concept One. The brand is surreptitious about the details. Regardless, as far as the rumor goes, this is going to be a foldable phone. Let’s see if OnePlus does one-up over its previous CES outing. Other things that might make the cut are – OnePlus TWS earbuds, OnePlus Pay, a bigger OnePlus TV, or even a top-rung 5G handset.

Sony @ CES 2020

Playstation 5

Sony PS5

Sony took the veil off its long-awaited PlayStation 5. Besides the logo, Sony also shared the highlight features such as 8K graphics, 3D Audio Sound, Haptics/Adaptive Triggers, Ultra High-speed SSD, Hardware-based ray-tracing, and Ultra HD BluRay.

WH-1000XM4

If you’re an audiophile, your ears would’ve come across Sony’s premium WH-1000XM3. Well, it’s successor is anticipated at the CES. A recent FCC certification of the Sony headphone solidifies the expectation.

We would love the newer Sony cans if they come bearing pure copper coiled driver, aptX Adaptive codec, and noise cancellation on calls.

Vision-S

Sony brought out an electric concept sedan on the big stage equipped with 33 sensors, both in and out of the surface. There is a lane departure warning system (LDWS), which notifies the driver when the auto deviates from the lane.

Then there are features like the brand’s in-house 360-degree Reality Audio and a wide dashboard.

Samsung @ CES 2020

8K ‘Bezel-less’ TV

A recent press release from Samsung Korea’s side has left very little to the imagination about their upcoming 8K TV. Technically, this “bezel-less” TV will flaunt a 99 percent screen to body ratio pushing the frame to 2.3 millimeters. Overall, the chassis is extremely slender at 15 millimeters. There will be native AI-based upscaling which will bring the quality of content to 8K resolution. This is backed by AI ScaleNet technology that will counter packet loss in video streaming apps. Amazon Prime Video is already on the cards.

Then there is an ambient brightness and contrast, OTS+ closer to reality Surround 5.1-ish sound experience, Q-Symphony audio channel aggregation, support for multiple smart assistants and Digital Butler for enhanced wireless connectivity, especially in legacy devices.

Neon AI

Besides the TV, we could expect Samsung to unveil its in-house Neon AI at CES. It is expected to bring down high-level sentience to the human level with basic abilities like speech, recognition, and thinking. Additionally, don’t be surprised if the brand brings out a bezel-less TV. Nah, not the nearly bezel-less kind, rather this is said to be a truly bezel-less model, which would be the first time in the world.

SelfieType Invisible keyboard

SelfieType is an invisible keyboard that relies on AI and uses your phone’s camera to track the hands. You just have to keep the hands within a radius and field of view.

It also gave us a glimpse of the AR roadmap with GEMS workout and a solution for Visually impaired to see their loved ones. Then, we also got to see Ballie, a rolling personal assistant.

Xiaomi @ CES 2020

Xiaomi unveiled the in-display fingerprint scanner concept back in July 2020. Well, since then we have seen more teasers and leaks surrounding the feature. But, we have got no word on the official revelation. At least a prototype, maybe! The chances of a CES presentation are high since OPPO, a rival brand has already made the premiere of its model. In case you’re interested, glue your eyes at CES 2020.

Vivo @ CES 2020

Vivo recently sent out press invites for its CES event. The enclosed image highlights the date, venue, and time. But, if you look closer, you might identify an easter egg. The V logo is folded at the valley. Well, that’s it. Market watchers have deciphered the cipher as an oncoming foldable phone from Vivo.

If it pans out, Hail Mary! Else, we could wind up with the Vivo V19 Pro. That might be a bummer for sure. But, it’s way too early to say something. So, let’s see.

Huami Amazefit @ CES 2020

Amazfit CES 2020

Huami might be a lesser-known brand in this list, but is for sure a leading player in the wearable market. And the brand has lately inboxed us bread crumbs on what we might look forward to its CES show.

So, we are set to witness the Amazefit BipS, which touts a longer battery life. This will be the fourth Amazefit smartwatch from the Bip lineup.

Besides it, we are likely to get a truly wireless earbud, and a whole new category. Yes, Huami calls it a ‘Special Futuristic Category For Next-Gen Health Enthusiasts.’ Speculations suggest a fitness shoe that seems quite plausible.

Apple @ CES 2020

Bloomberg reports (Drum rolls please), Apple is going to be present at CES 2020. Long-time no see Apple! The Tech magnate will supposedly light its POV on consumer privacy. So, don’t raise your hopes for a new hardware product.

For those who care about privacy, may pay heed to the Chief Privacy Officer Roundtable wherein the discussion would be about – What Do Consumers Want?

The participants include reps from Apple, Facebook, P&G, FTC, and Wing V.C. You heard it right – Facebook would be presenting its stance on – The future is private. Let’s lend our ears to the company on what it has to say on Privacy.

In partnership with Meridian Audio, LG is set to bring out its 2020 edition of ‘impressive lineup of soundbars.” This year’s models include SN9YG, SN11RG, SN10YG, and SN8YG, of which, the former two are of higher trim. They boast superior audio staging in dint of a 7.1.4-channel system with two wireless rear speakers for 360-degree surround ambiance.

In the frequency spectrum, they will pump the low end and at the same time cover a dynamic range along with Image Elevation for an alleged “lifelike” audio experience. This is likely to be backed by DTS:X audio.

Some other things underscored are – AI Room Calibration, ‘near-studio’ quality, 4K Pass-Through, optional SPK8 Wireless Rear Speaker Kit, Google Assistant integration, and plug & play support for Dolby True HD or DTS Master Audio as well.

Alienware @ CES 2020

Alienware introduced Concept UFO, which is a Nintendo Switch-esque gaming PC. This means a compact and portable gaming device which runs on Windows 10 and supports PC games. Its detachable controllers can be pulled off from the small display and used as a standalone gamepad.
