With every new update, Google Assistant becomes smarter and undisputedly the most all-around virtual assistant out there. This new update announced in CES 2019 comes with a slew of features which were long awaited and requested. Precisely speaking, it gets more connected to our daily lives and needs. Hey Google, how do you plan to take on Alexa? Let’s read further to know.

Hey Google, check in to my flight

Once this update is rolled out, you could do flight check-ins and retrieve boarding passes with Assistant. Type in or command Google Assistant with the above phrase and Google would do the rest. Google would pull the flight information from your email and complete the check-in process without you having to find a confirmation number. You’ll need to follow a few prompts throughout the check-in process, but you’ll be checked in and an email will be sent to verify your status.

Hey Google, be my interpreter

While you converse with someone in another tongue, you wish there was someone who could interpret and translate what the other person says. If you wished so, Google is the right assistant for you. Soon, you could shoot this command at your Google Assistant and it would begin translating in real-time. It would either recite the translation out loud via the speaker or show the text on the screen.

Hey Google, Share my Estimated Time of Arrival

Starting January 8, 2019, Google is rolling out the update for better Google Map integration to both Android and iOS users. You can relay your ETA (Estimated Time of Arrival) with a friend or family member, via SMS or various third-party apps like WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, Hangouts, Viber, Telegram, Android Messages, and more.

Google’s Growing Ecosystem

Like every other top-tier honcho of Tech world, Google is also building an ecosystem with its Assistant AI at the core.

In an interview with The Verge, Manuel Bronstein, VP of product for Google Assistant, made the case that Google is building an entire ecosystem for Assistant that’s akin to the ecosystem it’s built for Android. It’s a platform play, basically, just like Alexa. And Google wants to ensure it’s everywhere. (Source: theverge.com)

Google Assistant Connect

Google connect is the platform that would enable third-party gadgets to be connected to Google’s smart ecosystem. Manufacturers can add a display to their electronic appliances and make it work in sync with Google’s computing power. Google demoed this feature via an E-ink display, which could show basic information like weather and calendar. This means now you could set specific commands on your existing Google Home device which would automate tasks and display information on the third party appliances.

New Devices from Partners

Several new devices were announced at CES with Google Assistant integrated. Google assistant is finally arriving on Sonos One and Sonos Beam smart speakers. Anker and JBL are bringing Assistant to cars with small audio devices. Google is partnering with other tech giants like Lenovo and Whirlpool as well.
