German automobile brand BMW Motorrad has ventured into the electric two-wheeler market in India with the launch of the CE 04 premium electric scooter priced at Rs 14.90 lakh (ex-showroom). With its launch, the CE 04 has become the first electric scooter offered by BMW in India and is currently the most costly scooter with an Electric set up. The bookings commenced from this month prior to the commencement of delivery which is expected to start from September.
This is the second time that BMW Motorrad has exhibited this scooter; previously in December 2022 as the first internationally renowned premium two-wheeler brand to offer an electric scooter model in the Indian market.
BMW CE 04 Features
The CE 04 has an enlightened maxi-scooter design that has a longitudinally stretched and low design with a front end that rises diagonally and a flat platform-type seat. It also has crisp lines on its bodywork that are enhanced by a creased look, and full LED lighting. It measures 2,285 mm in length, 1,150 mm in height, 855 mm in width and 1,675 mm wheelbase, Standard seat height is 780 mm which can be raised to 800 mm with the comfort seat available. It comes in Avantgarde blue and Light white with the latter as an optional kind of colour.
On the tech front, the CE 04 has a 10.25-inch TFT colour touch panel that encompasses the navigation, connectivity, performance stats, range, and charging time values. It has three levels of ride settings (Eco, Rain and Road), traction control, as well as Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Anti-slip Control System (ASC) and one 12V/Type C charging port and electronic reverse. Availabilities their extent of customizations also exist too.
Powertrain
It is a fully electric scooter powered by a liquid cooled electric motor developing a maximum power of 41 bhp and a maximum torque of 62Nm. Others acceleration characteristics include the scooter’s capability to reach 50 kmph in just 2.7 seconds and a top speed of 120 kmph after completion of the run. Its 8.9 kWh battery pack give a rated driving range of 130 km based on a single charge with a 2.3 kW home charger is standard and BMW Wallbox charger is an option. The standard charger also charges the battery to 80% in 3 and a half hours.
Overall the CE 04 is built on a steel double-loop frame with a single-bridge telescopic forks at the front and the single-sided swingarm which is directly hinged to the suspension support at the back. As for wheels, it has both ends wrapped in 15-inch rims, while the discs sizes for the front and rear wheels are 265 mm. This new model could be compared with the previous scooter from BMW Motorrad available in India, namely C400 GT.
