BMW India has introduced the high-performance i5 M60 xDrive in India, priced at Rs. 1.19 crore (ex-showroom). This electric sedan, unveiled globally last year, is based on the new-gen BMW 5 Series and represents the most powerful variant of the EV lineup with the m60. It joins BMW India’s expanding range of electric vehicles, which includes the i4 and i7 sedans, along with the iX1 and iX SUVs.
BMW i5 M60 xDrive Powertrain
The i5 M60 features an all-wheel-drive system with an electric motor on each axle, delivering a combined output of up to 593 bhp and 820 Nm of torque. It boasts impressive performance figures, including a top speed of 230 kmph and a 0-100 kmph acceleration time of 3.8 seconds. Equipped with an 83.9 kWh battery pack, the EV offers a claimed range of up to 516 km on a single charge. BMW includes a complimentary 11 kW wall box charger with every unit of the i5 M60, while buyers also have the option to upgrade to a more powerful 22 kW unit. Additionally, the sedan supports up to 205 kW DC fast charging.
Just to recall, the i5 is the first model from the new 5 Series lineup to hit Indian shores, sharing its looks with the upcoming petrol/diesel version. However, it does have some special touches like blue accents around the BMW logos and a unique grille design. Being an M-performance model, the i5 M60 stands out with sportier features such as a different grille design, a sleek rear diffuser, and big 20-inch alloy wheels. Inside, it boasts sporty seats to match its high-performance vibe.
BMW i5 M60 Specifications
In terms of features, the i5 M60 offers a host of amenities for a luxurious ride. These include four-zone climate control, active seat ventilation for the front seats, a panoramic glass roof, and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. Entertainment is taken care of with a 14.9-inch touchscreen and a powerful 655-watt 17-speaker Bowers and Wilkins sound system.
On the performance front, the i5 M60 boasts adaptive suspension and adaptive LED headlights. Safety is a priority with 360-degree cameras. Moreover, buyers have the option to add on extra tech like adaptive M suspension, comfort front seats, and parking assistant professional, which enables users to park the vehicle using their smartphones.
When it comes to rivals, the i5 finds itself in a unique position, as there are currently no direct competitors in its price range. While the Audi e-tron and Mercedes EQS are positioned in a higher segment, the i5’s price places it in competition with vehicles like the Audi Q8 e-tron and Jaguar I-Pace.
