The newest version of Bluetooth is here, and although it is yet limited to a select few smartphones, it comes with a promise of increased speed and greater range.

Advantages of the Bluetooth 5.0 Over Bluetooth 4.2

  • 2 times the speed as offered by Bluetooth 4.2-compliant device (maximum theoretical bandwidth – 2Mbps)
  • 4 times the range of a Bluetooth-compatible device
  • 8 times the broadcasting message capacity over Bluetooth 4.2-sporting devices
  • Larger data packet size as compared to Bluetooth 4.2 (increase from 31-octet to 255-octet)
  • Automatic interference detection and prevention on neighbouring bands

As of now, Android Nougat or earlier versions don’t have support for Bluetooth 5.0, and we will have to wait at least until the Android O shows up, in order to avail its full advantages.

Anyway, here are the currently available smartphones with Bluetooth 5.0 that you can have a look at, if you love using the Bluetooth feature, and want something that is future proof on that front.
