Best Upcoming SUV Cars under Rs 20 Lakh in 2022

We are nearing the final sunset of 2021 and with the arrival of the new year comes new promises and product expectations, especially in the automobile sector. The year 2021 has seen SUV cars under Rs 20 lakhs sell like hotcakes. SUV cars like Tata Harrier, Hyundai Alcazar, Hyundai Creat, Kia Sonet, and Mahindra XUV700 all have a long waiting period and are likely to continue in early 2022.

Coronavirus pandemic and Chipset shortage might have crippled the fast-paced automobile space this year, in 2022 we will see a rejuvenated auto world with most brands lining up to launch their new SUV cars especially under Rs 20,00,000 segment. We have managed to gather some information on the upcoming SUVs of 2022 including both conventional engine cars and electric vehicles. Here’s the complete list of the most promising upcoming SUVs of 2022:

1. Kia Carens

The South Korean vehicle maker has already unveiled its Kia Carens SUV for the global market and is pending to announce the arrival date to India. The company has designed the car based on its new ‘Opposites United’ philosophy to meet the needs of Indian families. It comes with a digital radiator grille on the front with the signature tiger face. The interior has an ambient colour scheme, ventilated front seats, and a large HD touchscreen infotainment system. 

The 7-seater Carens will arrive in both diesel and petrol models whereas the latter one will sport a 1498cc engine. It will arrive with 10 safety features including 6 airbags, all-wheel disc brakes, rear parking sensors, ABS, VSM, and TPMS Highline among others. The Kia Carens car is expected to be priced between 15 – 20 Lakh and may arrive in January 2022.

2. Mahindra XUV300 Electric

The Mahindra XUV300 Electric is in the pipeline of the Indian vehicle manufacturer to become an EV alternative to the already running XUV300. This car will be the first SUV EV model from Mahindra to hit the Indian roads based on the new in-house Mahindra Electric Scalable and Modular Architecture (MESMA). The EV is expected to arrive in two powertrain options of 350V and 380V to offer a mileage of up to 200km and 375km respectively. 

The Mahindra XUV300 electric car is said to offer two battery pack options where the affordable one will compete with the Tata Nexon E while the top-end model will take a stand against the Hyundai Kona Electric and MG ZS EV. The electric XUV300 SUV could debut sometime in April 2022 tagged at around Rs 18 lakh.

3. Nissan Terra

Slated to launch in May 2022, the Nissan Terra will come with a single diesel engine option with a 1498cc capacity. It will bear a compact SUV design with a seating capacity of five people. The transmission type of the Terra will be automatic. The Japanese manufacturer is gearing to present the Nissan Terra in the Indian market as a cheaper alternative to Toyota Fortuner and ​​Ford Endeavour. It could be priced at Rs 20 lakh.

4. Haval Concept H

The Haval Concept H has been first teased at Auto Expo 2020 with a bold front, chrome-lined grille, and LED headlights with several individual elements. It will be going to a mid-size SUV with a 5 seater capacity. The dashboard of the car sports a minimalist design with a floating touchscreen infotainment system. It has a panoramic sunroof. 

The Concept H will feature a 1998cc diesel engine with a manual transmission type. It is also expected to arrive with a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine. The Great Wall Motors was slated to unveil the Haval Concept H in India earlier but is now expected to debut in May 2022. The car could be priced at around Rs 15 lakh.

5. Maruti Futuro-e

The Futuro-e is a concept electric car from Maruti shown at the Auto Expo 2020. The company has designed and conceptualized the car in India with a layered design. It has a bold front face with a crossbar design for the headlamp. Also, the taillights are linked to each other with an LED light bar across the width of Futuro-e. It is expected to arrive with both a 1.5L diesel engine and a hybrid powertrain. India’s largest vehicle manufacturer could unveil the Futuro-e in February 2022.

6. Hyundai Staria

The Hyundai Staria is a multi-purpose vehicle (MUV) to meet the needs of the masses. The company has already launched the car in a certain global market which is expected to cross the Indian borders as well. It comes with a host of highlighting features like horizontal daytime running lights (DRLs) on the front, bold and wide radiator grille, vertical tail lamps, a 10.25-inch front display, and 64-colour ambient interior lamps. It will offer a 2.2litre diesel engine powertrain.

7. Toyota Hilux

The Toyota Hilux SUV car is expected to officially launch in January 2022. The car is more like a pick-up truck with five seating spaces and four doors. The front face has large hexagonal grilles and an aggressive bumper design. The headlamps will come with a swept-back design while the taillights sport a sculpted LED pattern. 

The Toyota Hilux is expected to arrive with two diesel engines – 150PS 2.4-litre and 204PS 2.8-litre. Other features may include a big touchscreen infotainment system, multiple airbags, rear parking camera. The company could unveil two different variants of the car – Hilux and Hilux Revo where the base model could be priced at around Rs 20 lakh.
