Qualcomm has been very active in refreshing its mid-range lineup that includes Series 600 and series 700 chipsets. Of these, the Snapdragon 700-series is meant to bring select Snapdragon 800-series flagship features in slightly low performance and aggressively priced bracket.

The recently launched Snapdragon 730 and Snapdragon 730G are such 8nm process based cost-effective chipsets that are quickly being adopted in real-world devices.

What’s the difference between Snapdragon 730 and Snapdragon 730G?

The ‘G’ stands for gaming. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 730G is almost similar to Snapdragon 730, but it’s better optimized for gaming. The 730G integrates the “Snapdragon Elite Gaming” suite that enables it to render relatively better graphics (Vulkan 1.1), support smoother gameplay, drive powerful wireless audio while gaming, and more.

The 730G also drive comparatively higher resolution displays (QHD+ vs Full HD+).

So basically for consumers who aren’t interested in high-end gaming, the two chips should be equivalent.

What’s special about Snapdragon 730/ Snapdragon 730G?

These new chips are based on the power-efficient 8nm manufacturing process and employ two powerful Cortex-A76-based Kryo 470 cores, resulting in a 35% performance boost over SD 710.
The Adreno 618 GPU is 25% faster than Adreno 616 on Snapdragon 710. This should result in significantly smoother gaming performance.

Best Phones with Snapdragon 730G and Snapdragon 730 to buy in 2020

1. Vivo X50

The Vivo X50 is the latest smartphone to boast of the Snapdragon 730G mobile processor. The X series phone flaunts an elegant design and has a quad-camera setup at the back.

It comes with a good quality 6.56-inch Super AMOLED screen with HDR 10+ certification. Vivo has paired the SD730 SoC with 8GB RAM and 128GB. The phone comes with a 32MP camera on the front for selfie lovers.

2. Samsung Galaxy M51

The Galaxy M51 is a very ambitious M-series phone that’s mostly known for its monstrous 5000mAh battery. The Galaxy M51 has an AMOLED display and is power by Snapdragon 730 octa-core chipset paired with ample RAM and storage.

There is a 64MP quad-camera setup on the rear, a 6.7-inch AMOLED display, and a 32MP front camera for selfies.

3. Samsung Galaxy A80

Samsung’s Galaxy A80 was the first Snapdragon 730G phone, which debuted in India earlier this year. The Galaxy A80 marquee feature is its swivel camera that’s housed in a motorized pop-up slider. Consequently, the same triple camera module serves as both the front and rear.

The Galaxy A80 includes an in-display fingerprint sensor, Samsung Pay, and runs the latest One UI software.

4. Realme X2

Realme has officially announced its affordable Snapdragon 730G powered phone – the Realme X2 (review). This is an upgraded variant of Realme XT and apart from the more powerful chipset, it also benefits from faster 30W VOOC 3.0 charging.

The other specs will remain the same as the Realme XT. The phone brandishes a flaunts a 3D Glass design, has an AMOLED display and a 4000mAh battery.

5. Oppo Reno 2

Reno 2 is the first Oppo phone to feature quad rear cameras, symmetrically aligned in the center and also the brand’s first to be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 730G.

Apart from the powerful chipset, this game-centric phone will include up to 8GB RAM and up to 256GB storage, and a 4000mAh battery with VOOC 3.0 fast charging support. The Reno 2 has a 6.5-inch AMOLED display and houses the selfie camera within a sharkfin pop-up.

6. Xiaomi Redmi K20

Xiaomi is pitching its new K series as flagship Killer 2.0. The newly launched K-series includes Redmi K20 and Redmi K20 Pro (review). While the Pro version rocks a Snapdragon 855 chipset, the Redmi K20 is driven by Snapdragon 730 SoC.

The 8nm octa-core chipset is coupled with Adreno 618 GPU, up to 8GB RAM and up to 256 GB internal storage. It comes with Sony IMX582 backed triple rear camera and a 20MP selfie camera.

7. Poco X2

Poco X2 is the latest smartphone to joins the club of Qualcomm Snapdragon 730G powered phones. Poco’s comeback phone packs a 120Hz 6.67-inch FHD+ IPS screen on the front and has a glass back.

Xiaomi’s spin-off brand is offered in three memory and storage variants: 6GB+64GB, 6GB+128GB and 8GB+256GB options. It houses a quad-camera setup at the back featuring 64MP Sony IMX 686 sensor coupled with an 8MP ultra-wide sensor, a 2MP depth sensor, and a 2MP macro sensor. Up front, it includes a 20MP primary sensor and a 2MP depth sensor.

8. Samsung Galaxy A71

Samsung seems really optimistic about the Snapdragon 730 chipset for A-series. After the Galaxy A80, Samsung has also employed the Snapdragon 730 chipset in its Galaxy A71 (review) smartphone.

The Galaxy A71 is backed by a 4500mAh battery which fuels 6.7-inch Super AMOLED FDH+ screen. Samsung pairs the Snapdragon 730chipset with up to 8GB RAM and 128GB UFS 2.1 storage. The Galaxy A71 quad-camera setup features a 64MP primary sensor, 12MP ultra-wide sensor, 5MP macro sensor and a 5MP depth sensor.

9. Lenovo Z6

Lenovo Z6, which is currently exclusive to China, offers Snapdragon 730 for a very attractive starting price of 1,899 Yuan (roughly Rs. 20,000). This premium glass body phone has a 6.39-inch AMOLED display with HDR10+ support, a dedicated card slot, triple rear cameras, and a 4000mAh battery.

That’s a lot of value for the asking price, but chances of the Z6 making it beyond China are slim at best.

Best Snapdragon 730G phones to buy in 2020

Qualcomm has also announced a Snapdragon 720G, which is similar to Snapdragon 730G, save for a few minor differences. The Snapdragon 720G is a 4G LTE only chipset that will represent 7-series for competent game-centric phones.
