Now, Xiaomi has also introduced the global version of the ROM with a few additional features.

Xiaomi also talked about the list of phones that will get MIUI 10 update moving forward. Let’s first talk about what has changed from MIUI 9.5 to MIUI 10.

11 MIUI 10 Features – What has changed compared to MIUI 9.5?

1. AI Portraits

The MIUI 10 gets support to shoot software powered bokeh shots from both front and rear cameras. The feature will be powered by AI, which is to say it will get better as you use it. The AI portraits will work for both single and dual camera phones.

2. Optimized for speed

As always, Xiaomi puts in a great deal of effort to make it interface faster and more optimized. This year, Xiaomi relies heavily on AI to speed things up. Xiaomi claims to have considerably reduced App load time using predictive AI that understands user behavior. The interface also includes lick animations, intuitive sidebars, and gestures for simpler operation.

3. AI Voice Assistant [China Only]

MIUI 10 will also integrate Xiaomi’s own personal assistant. This feature is however exclusive to China. The AI assistant can give you traffic updates, check your schedule, read your messages, and assist you in similar ways.

You can also swipe away apps you want to kill and long press on the floating app windows for more options.

5. Support for Bezel-less phones

Xiaomi’s software is now better equipped to deliver a more immersive experience, particularly on bezel-less screens. Xiaomi is also adding gesture navigation, provision to maximize screen space, and making it easier for you to operate your phone using one hand.

6. Better control for Mi Ecosystem devices

The MIUI 10 will make it simpler for users to control Mi ecosystem devices. You can now control smart home products with just a single tap. The smart product that’s ready to pair will automatically pop on your phone screen.

7. Scan Paytm QR Code and Pay from Camera App

Using the MIUI 10 you can scan QR codes of different apps directly from the camera app. So, if you need to make a Paytm payment, you can simply open the camera app to scan the QR code. Once the QR code is scanned, you will be redirected to the Paytm Payment page where you can complete the payment. Xiaomi will add other apps and services as well.

8. New nature-inspired notification audio

Xiaomi has also added a number of nature-inspired audio clips to MIUI 10. For instance, you could use the sound of dripping water droplets for notifications. And just as each dripping drop makes a different sound when it plunges in water, you will hear something different with each incoming notification.

You also add white noises like forest, river, etc. to the timer app.

9. New quick menus in Messages

Remember the unique and detailed IRCTC card that shows up in messages with MIUI 9 when you get an IRCTC message? Xiaomi is now extending the same to 100 other apps and services. Incoming messages from these services will show up in a customized manner and will be easier to read and make sense of. Xiaomi will also identify which service is sending you messages and remove the reply button where it doesn’t make sense.

10. Redesigned quick settings and notifications shade

The slide-down notification menu on MIUI 10 also features interesting visual changes. You will see a white background and colored icons on the notification shade – much inspired from Android P. Apart from this, Xiaomi also added quick reply for notifications.

11. MIUI Lab

MIUI Lab, that debuted last year, is Xiaomi’s effort to give its users an early taste of its upcoming features. It is exclusive to MIUI users. This year, with MIUI 10, new options have been added to the MIUI Lab.

It includes Taplus that can trigger certain actions by long pressing on items, car mode to let you perform actions using your voice commands, and an AI-powered “super-resolution” feature to improve the quality of images.

12. Autofill support

The MIUI 10 ropes in the Autofill feature as well. As the name suggests, it can automatically fill usernames and passwords across different apps and services. So the next time you have to log-in to any service, you can do it with just a single tap.

13. Android P-inspired Volume controls

Taking the cue from Android P, Xiaomi re-adjusted the volume bar from the top of the screen to the edges, on MIUI 10. It even added media volume controls to the volume rockers by default, and you can tap on the silent button to switch between ringing modes.

Moreover, tapping on the three dots below the bell icon will take you the option of full volume controls to set the media, ring, and alarm volume levels or activate a time-based DND mode at once.

14. Picture-in-Picture Mode

Picture-in-picture (PiP) is a handy feature on any phone. It adds a floating window on top of another app just so you don’t have to close a particular app in order to access a new one momentarily. The feature debuted with Android Oreo and Xiaomi has finally added it to its custom UI with MIUI 10.

15. MI Browser gets progressive Web Apps support

The MIUI 10 will also add support for progressive web apps that allow you to use web pages like apps for supported services. With progressive apps, you can avail app-like interface without downloading separate apps.
