Our job requires us to go through a variety of phones day in and day out, and over the years we have realized that we tend to use the ones that are good looking and easy to handle a lot more frequently than the uninspiring few that might even have a beast of a chipset roaring underneath. (हिंदी में पढ़ें)

How a smartphone looks and how easier it is to wield is a judgment criterion that has consistently escalated on our priority list. Of course, what can be termed as a great smartphone design is highly subjective.

And this is how our rule-book goes:

  • Doesn’t really matter if its plastic
  • 2.5D glass helps, though.
  • Uniqueness scores candy points
  • Slim profile makes handling a breeze

So, here are a few best-designed phones you can get for under Rs. 20,000

1. Xiaomi Mi A1

Xiaomi Mi A1 (first impression) has been making the headlines for past few days thanks to its dual camera setup and stock Android software. The rebranded Mi 5X certainly got the killer enough looks to feature in this list of the best-looking smartphones. It has a metal and glass where the front is dominated by the glass while the rear is entirely a carved out of single piece of metal. It has u-shaped antenna bands.

2. Samsung Galaxy J7 Pro

This is most expensive J-series phone ever but it’s certainly worth it. The phone does really well on our good looks meter. In my own personal aesthetic judgement, it’s all metal back, rounded edges and U-shape antenna bands score fairly well. The J7 Pro’s (review) hands on feel and 2.5D glass on the top further supported its claims to star in this list.

3. LG Q6

The slim bezel phone budget phone from LG is another beauty that manages to make it to this list. It’s 18:9 full vision display with a 2160 x 1080 resolution ensures the phone is similar than any other 5.5-inch display phone. The sleek phone from LG has a metal rim with a glossy plastic back. The narrow bezels around the display and attractive colours options make it worthy enough.

4. Nokia 6

Nokia 6 that recently launched for an unexpectedly cool price is perhaps the only full metal body phone that you can buy under 15,000 INR as of today. It’s carved from a single block of Aluminum 6000 that’s CNC machined and sandblasted, has pleasantly sharp edges, and feels extremely premium. The 2.5D glass on the front and

The 2.5D glass on the front and well-optimized stock Android Nougat are plus points.

5. Nubia Z17 Mini

If metal is what you crave, the Nubia Z17 Mini is perhaps one of the most premium looking full metal unibody handset that you can buy for under 20,000 INR.

On the front, there is the regular 2.5D glass and breathing red light on the home button. On the rear, the red camera ascent on the camera, the rounded edges, the hardly noticeable antenna bands and sandblasted metal – all add up perfectly. And since it’s compact, handling is no trouble at all. Nubia is also lining up to launch a 6GB RAM variant In India.

7. Vivo V5S

The Vivo V5s is a slim plastic phone with 2.5D glass layered on the front. The neat metal-finish back has U-shaped antenna bands, which are brazenly lifted from current generation iPhones but do enhance its aesthetic appeal.

The phone is slim, has well-balanced weight and a good-enough 20MP selfie camera. Like all other Vivo phones, the V5s has a good quality screen protected affixed on the display out of the box. And Vivo bundles a decent quality TPU back cover too.

The Zenfone 3 is one of the rare few phones that offers metal and glass construction for under 20,000 INR. Asus is using 2.5D Gorilla glass on both front and rear and the signature concentric circle pattern shines through them. In our opinion, the phone looks best in black.

It has also got one of the best cameras in this budget that can record stunning videos in good outdoor lighting.

9. iPhone SE

Apple iPhone SE is another great design option and after the recent price cuts, it does make some sense to buy it if you need something ultra compact and something that is Android free.

It looks almost identical to the iPhone 5S save for the matte finished side edges, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Somehow it still feels refreshingly different to other Android phones available in this budget. It offers consistent performance and packs the same camera sensor as the iPhone 6S. We’d advise you to purchase the 32GB variant.

Huawei’s Honor 9i is another good looking option that you can go for without spending too much. Priced at 17,999 INR, the Honor 9i offers a trendy 18:9 display and dual cameras on front and rear.

From what we hear, the interface is still buggy but that’s something Honor could fix in future updates.
