Asus brings in another affordable Zenfone, The Zenfone Max ZC550KL, to India, which highlights a mammoth 5000 mAh battery, and will set you back by 9,999 INR. The design is discernibly different from what Asus has been using across a number of devices for most of last year, but hardly refreshing.

Taking advantage of the beefy battery, there is a 5.5-inch IPS LCD panel (720p HD), with Gorilla Glass 4 protection on top. The handset puts entry level quad-core Snapdragon 410 on the saddle, paired with decent 2GB RAM and 16GB storage (expandable).

Software remains same, i.e. Android Lollipop based Zen UI 2.0, which feels a bit cluttered, but includes a lot to keep you engaged.

If you are already thinking whether Zenfone Laser should be a better choice with the laser camera and all, you can rest assured from a functional stand point. Asus has included the same 13MP rear camera module with f/2.0 aperture, Real Tone flash and Laser Auto Focus, along with the 5MP wide-angle front camera in Zenfone Max as well.

From design and handling perspective, Zenfone Max is heavier at 202 grams if not chubbier (10.55 mm thick). Other features include dual SIM, 4G LTE , WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS.

Commenting on the launch and pre-booking, Peter Chang, Region Head – South Asia & Country Manager for ASUS India said, “Timed perfectly with the new year, ZenFone Max takes our vision of providing luxury at an affordable price further. It combines a powerful battery with an innovative camera making it the perfect utility product for users who demand performance at all times. We are sure the phone will be appreciated by our patrons and take us a step closer to repeating the success we saw last year.”
