Asus has launched their much awaited Republic of Gamers (ROG) branded beast of a gaming phone in India. This phone was first introduced at Computex 2018 in March, and is touted to be the world’s first mobile phone with a 3D vapor-chamber cooling system.

Asus ROG Gaming Phone Features

Asus ROG features a 6-inch AMOLED HDR display with a staggering 90Hz refresh rate and 100,000:1 contrast ratio. The display is designed to produce an extremely vivid gamut of colors and will help gamers discern every inch of detail. The display is enclosed in a 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass 6 and the back of the device is safeguarded under a 3G Gorilla Glass.

The gaming phone is powered by Qualcomm’s Flagship processor Snapdragon 845 which is over clocked at 2.96GHz. That supported by Adreno 630 GPU makes it live up to its name, ROG gaming phone. The phone is expected to impart a smooth performance with no perceivable lags or jitters. The phone comes with an 8GB LPDDR4X RAM with storage space of either 128GB or 512GB.

As for the photography, the phone houses a dual rear camera setup consisting of a 12MP Sony IMX363 primary sensor with an aperture of f/1.7 and a 120 wide-angle secondary sensor. On the front, we have an 8MP lens with f/2.0 aperture. The camera modules have features like GIF animation and Live Emojis.

One of the exciting features of this new gaming phone is the use of ultrasonic sensors to create a gaming console like experience. We all know that smartphones have limited physical buttons and the ones which are present don’t exactly help with gaming. So, Asus has employed Ultrasonic sensors to take in AirTrigger commands that can mimic the left/right triggers of the gaming console. What’s more interesting is that they can be programmed to accept any on-screen action like firing, steering or navigation. And since ultrasonic work on the reflection of sound waves, you just need a feather-light touch to fire them.

ROG phone packs dual front-facing speakers that deliver a stereo sound experience and they are supported by dual smart amplifiers to maximize the volume and minimize the distortion. Asus ROG runs on Android Oreo 8.1 based ROG UI which comes with a unique X-mode that clears all the background tasks and gives more resources to gaming. The phone houses an enormous 4000 mAh battery that supports 30W Qualcomm 4.0 Fast charging. It is claimed that the phone just takes half an hour to reach a capacity of 60%. This smartphone also boasts IPX4 water-resistance and includes a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor.
