Asus Chromebit stick converts any display to PC; Launched at Rs. 7,999

There is something interesting coming from Google for people who have a spare display laying at their home, office or junkyard. Today at the Google for India event, Sundar Pichai and his team announced Asus Chromebit which will be available in India in January 2016, for Rs. 7,999.

Like Intel Compute Stick, Asus Chromebit is mini HDMI Chrome OS Stick which can be plugged into any dumb monitor or display to convert it to a personal computer to take the advantage or explore Internet. The Asus Chromebit is fitted with a Rockchip’s RK3288 quad-core chipset, 2GB of RAM, and 16GB of inbuilt memory. Chromebit Also features a USB 2.0 port to connect external hardrive or thumb drive and an audio jack to plug-in speakers. Earlier in the year, Google-Asus launched Chromebit in the west for $85 which roughly translate to Rs. 5,700.

“AsusBit needs to be attached a monitor, a keyboard and mouse. Asus will be launching the ChromeBit and two new ChromeBooks in January. The chromeBit will launch for Rs 7,999” said Caeser Sengupta, VP for Google’s next billion initiatives.

Google has been pitching its Chrome OS for something now as the affordable alternative to Windows and Mac. The Chrome desktop OS is based on Google’s much popular Chrome Web browser. Google has been trying to add new features like offline media playback and ability to run Android app to make it more competitive and user-friendly.
