It was only recently that Apple officially announced the upcoming edition of WWDC 2023 to be held on June 5th. The iPhone giant didn’t share any list of devices and software updates it will tease. But hasn’t stopped people from making assumptions, right? The Apple’s AR/MR headset has been a much-awaited piece of hardware and it was likely to be introduced at WWDC.

Apparently, that is likely not the case given the fact that Apple has reportedly pushed back the mass production of its mixed-reality headset by a few months. It is hoped that the assembly will be ready in a few months and before mid-to-late 3Q23. The information was shared by Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo which makes it worth a look.

According to Kuo, Apple is uncertain whether the AR/MR headset would be able to make an ‘iPhone moment’. A number of reasons could be causing the delay in launch such as the fact that the headset is likely to be priced between $3,000 to $4,000. Apart from that, the readiness of the ecosystem, hardware specifications, the number of units assembled, and the economic downturn could be some other reasons affecting the timeline for Apple’s MR headset.

Reportedly, the delay in mass production is because 200K to 300K units are being assembled this year. It is much lower than the 500K units expected. Of course, Apple hasn’t shared any information regarding the delay in its mass production.

For the unversed, Apple’s MR headset has been under development for years now. It is likely to be comparable to what Meta Quest Pro could do. The headset will compete against the high-end competition from Meta, and Microsoft among other players.

Get ready for the epic WWDC 2023 on June 5 through 9. You will get to see what Apple has been cooking on the hardware and software front. The event will be online although there’s an in-person event for developers and students on June 5th during the keynote although the space is limited and thus, it requires interested people to apple immediately.
