Apple to tie-up with Hyundai for electric vehicles, claims Kuo

Apple and Hyundai are working together as a team to develop an electric car, revealed Ming-Chi Kuo – a noted TF Securities analyst. He added that Apple’s first car will be based on Hyundai’s E-GMP platform. 

Kuo also signals that Apple may collaborate with General Motors and PSA to produce and utilize automotive supply chain resources for latter vehicle models. Meanwhile, Hyundai is among the first partners for Apple’s ambitious project and is supposed to design components and handle production. For the US markets, Hyundai’s subsidiary branch Kia will be responsible for manufacturing Apple vehicles. Kuo indicates that the market will have to wait till 2025 for Apple car.

Hyundai E-GMP platform

Hyundai, the South Korean motor company, announced the E-GMP platform last year based on its first dedicated BEV (battery electric vehicle) module. The maker considers the BEV platform to be the next generation. As per the Hyundai statement, the E-GMP will be charged to 80% of its efficiency within 18 minutes supporting a high-speed charging mechanism. As for mileage, it will get to 500km on a single charge. 

Also, Hyundai is presenting its E-GMP as a high-performance model that can accelerate up to 100kmph in less than 3.5 seconds delivering a top speed of 260kmph.

In the previous month, a report on the possible partnership of Apple and Hyundai have boosted the shares of the latter to a record high. However, Hyundai revised its statement that it had been receiving requests from various companies for cooperation in the development of autonomous electric vehicles with no mention of Apple.
