It is claimed that the Cupertino giant’s Taiwan based suppliers with start shipping related components as early as Q3 2020. “Apple is set to release 13-inch MacBook Pro and MacBook Air, powered by Apple Silicon, by the end of this year, total shipments of MacBook lineup are expected to reach 16-17 million units in 2020 compared to 14.5-15.5 million units shipped a year earlier, the sources estimated,” Taiwan based DigiTimes published quoting its source.

It’s worth pointing out that the new report hints a slightly different timeline than Ming-Chi Kuo’s investor note earlier. As per Kuo’s claim, Apple will introduce an ARM-based 13 inch MacBook Pro in 2020 but a 13-inch MacBook Air with Apple Silicon is likely to debut sometime in Q1, 2021.

Apple for more than a decade depended up to Intel for processors. Back in 2005, Apple made a major switch from PowerPC to Intel which helped Apple to bring in major improvements to its MacBook laptops. With this switch to homegrown ARM-based silicon, Apple will be able to ensure a more robust integration between hardware and software to further boost performance.
