Apple at WWDC 2020 announced that it will switch from Intel to ARM-based silicone for its MAC devices. Since then several reports have hit the internet suggesting contradicting timelines for these ARM-based machines. Now, DigiTimes has published a new report suggesting a possible launch of two MacBooks laptops with Apple Silicon within 2020.

The report claims that Apple plans to announce an ARM-based MacBook Pro and MacBook Air before the last sunset of 2020. It is claimed that the Cupertino giant’s Taiwan based suppliers with start shipping related components as early as Q3 2020. “Apple is set to release 13-inch MacBook Pro and MacBook Air, powered by Apple Silicon, by the end of this year, total shipments of MacBook lineup are expected to reach 16-17 million units in 2020 compared to 14.5-15.5 million units shipped a year earlier, the sources estimated,” Taiwan based DigiTimes published quoting its source.

It’s worth pointing out that the new report hints a slightly different timeline than Ming-Chi Kuo’s investor note earlier. As per Kuo’s claim, Apple will introduce an ARM-based 13 inch MacBook Pro in 2020 but a 13-inch MacBook Air with Apple Silicon is likely to debut sometime in Q1, 2021.

Apple for more than a decade depended up to Intel for processors. Back in 2005, Apple made a major switch from PowerPC to Intel which helped Apple to bring in major improvements to its MacBook laptops. With this switch to homegrown ARM-based silicon, Apple will be able to ensure a more robust integration between hardware and software to further boost performance.
