Apple WWDC 2019 unfolded lots of software updates comprising the iOS 13, MacOS 10.15, WatchOS 6, tvOS 13 iPadOS and more. On stage, the Cupertino-based company took the veil off two hardware products too. We got the new Mac Pro, a spec bump to the 2013 predecessor. It packed up to 1.5TB RAM, 4TB SSD storage, 28-core Intel Xeon W processor, 1400W power supply and more. Apple also announced a new Pro Display XDR monitor as well.
Apple Mac Pro 2019 Features
The new Mac Pro comes in a stainless steel case with two handles up top and a mesh front panel. There is an additional concealed handle that if pulled takes the case off the actual gear inside. For its porous looks, its nick-named as a cheese grater.
However, the cream of the Mac Pro is its internal specs. This is an upgradeable PC and let’s cover the top-end variant. It is powered by an 8-core 3.5GHz Intel Xeon processor upgradeable up to 28 cores. It bears one AMD Radeon Pro 850X GPU and could be added to 4 AMD Radeon Pro Vega II Duo graphics cards.
Coming to ports and slots, it is equipped with 12 DIMM slots which could be packed up to 1.5TB of RAM. This is coupled with up to 4TB (2x2TB) SSD storage. Inside, you also get 8 user-accessible PCIe slots.
On the surface, Mac Pro ships with two Thunderbolt 3 ports, two USB-A ports, a much appreciated 3.5mm audio jack at the back, two more Thunderbolt 3 ports up top alongside a power button and a LED indicator.
The PCI slots would be backed by MPX modules. Apple unveiled its own in-house designed MPX module standard that integrates PCIe and Thunderbolt 3 connectivity. There is also a custom video accelerator card named Afterburner meant for graphics-intensive and resource heavy video editing.
Mac Pro 2019 is fueled by a 1400W power supply.
Apple Pro Display XDR monitor
This is an accessory showcased beside the Mac Pro which augments the rich video experience rendered out of the CPU. It is a 32-inch LCD 6K XDR (Extreme Dynamic Range) display. This panel boasts 1600nits of peak brightness (sustained 1000nits of brightness) and a whopping million-to-one contrast ratio.
Aesthetically, it flaunts a sleek look thanks to the thin bezels. You could buy a glossy edition or a nano-etched glass (matte finish). It also has pores at back for heat ventilation.
Apple Mac Pro 2019 and Pro Display XDR monitor pricing and availability
The new Mac Pro starts at a price tag of $5,999 (around Rs. 4,14,438) while the Pro Display XDR starts at $4,999 (approximately Rs. 3,45,353) not including the stand with wheels.
