Amidst declining Mac sales since Q4 2022, Apple is reportedly planning a significant refresh of its Mac Mini lineup. According to Bloomberg, the tech giant is expected to reveal the M4 Mac Mini later this year with a major revamp, especially to the design.
One of the major changes would be the Mac Mini’s size. The new model is expected to be significantly more compact, potentially shrinking to the dimensions of an Apple TV set-top box. This downsized version will still use the signature aluminum shell but will be shorter than the current model, which stands at 1.4 inches tall and 7.75 inches wide.
The Apple TV set-top box, on the other hand, is just 1.22 inches tall and 3.66 inches wide, which is less than half the size of the current Mac Mini.

Under the hood, the new Mac Mini will feature Apple’s latest M4 processor, an upgrade already seen in the iPad Pro. This chip is expected to offer not just faster performance but also enhanced artificial intelligence performance, thanks to a more powerful Neural Processing Unit (NPU).
Further, the M4 Mac Mini will reportedly include at least three USB-C ports, a power plug, and an HDMI port. This is a notable change over the current model, which only offers 2x USB-C ports, along with 2x USB-A, a headphone jack, and an Ethernet port. Bloomberg did not mention if Apple would keep the rest of the ports.

Despite rumors that the new Mac Mini will be cheaper to manufacture, it’s unclear if these savings will be passed on to consumers. Apple’s pricing strategy remains a mystery, and there’s no guarantee that the refreshed model will come with a lower price tag.
Apple is reportedly working on two versions of the new Mac Mini—standard and Pro variants, both codenamed J773. The standard M4 model could start shipping as soon as this month, with the M4 Pro version likely to follow in October or later.
