Looks like South Korean smartphone maker Samsung is having a hard time coping with faulty batteries. Reportedly, a small part of the company’s SDI Co Ltd factory caught fire, courtesy waste products including dysfunctional Lithium battery.

The factory is located in the northern Chinese city of Tianjin and has been entrusted with the task of supplying batteries for the company’s much awaited flagship, the Galaxy S8, expectedly in the first quarter of this year.samsung-galaxy

One of the five production plants by SDI in China, the Tianjin factory is said to be a major one for the production of small batteries.

The company issued a statement saying that fire didn’t break out on the production line itself, but in an area used for waste products, including the said faulty batteries. The factory, it said, was running as usual.

On the other hand, the Wuqing branch of the Tianjin Fire Department, which was called in to tend to the fire begged to differ and pointed towards the batteries to be sole reason for the mishap.

It made a post on its Sina Weibo account saying, The material that caught fire was lithium batteries inside the production workshops and some half-finished products.

Other than that, it said that it had dispatched a sum total of 110 firefighters along with 19 trucks to put out the fire.

As of now, the fire has been extinguished with apparently negligible damage but has, in a broader prospect, dealt a crushing blow to Samsung’s efforts to come back with a bang after the debacle that was the Note 7.

Ok, that's not exactly how it happened.. but, Hey!
