The Voice Over LTE (VOLTE) service which is currently exclusive to Reliance Jio will soon expand to Airtel and Idea networks too. The extension will help the companies to compete against Jio which has managed to dig a big hole in Telecom operator earnings this year.

India’s top mobile network, Bharati Airtel has already been testing VoLTE services in a few cities for some time now and will expand it to other areas in the next 6 to 9 months.

On the other hand, Idea cellular will start rolling out the VoLTE services for its customer in the first few months of 2018. The company will be delaying on its promise of adding 4G VoLTE to its network by the year-end itself.

If things go as per plans for Idea, then the telecom provider may roll out its VoLTE service before Airtel. We will have to wait for a few more months to find out that. Meanwhile, Vodafone users can also expect VoLTE service on their network anytime soon.

Voice over Long-Term Evolution (VoLTE) is a standard for high-speed wireless communication for mobile phones and data terminals. The service has been credited for the popularity of 4G services in India which has successfully surmounted the 3G service.

If the trend of 4G services continues like this then the 3G services may end up soon in India. According to Bharati Airtel CEO Gopal Vittal, “India will get to a situation where 4G and 2G will co-exist for a while.”
