Snapdragon 625 consolidated Qualcomm’s position in the affordable space last year. It was universally hailed as a trusted option for lower mid-range phones owing to its power-efficient nature and dependable performance. Moving forward in 2018, the Snapdragon 625 will be replaced by its successor, the Snapdragon 630. In fact, there already are quite a few phones that already employ the new Qualcomm chipset. Snapdragon 630 is formed on the 14nm process and has 8 Cortex-A53 cores arranged in big.LITTLE configuration. The performance cluster is clocked at 2.2GHz (compared to 2.0GHz on Snapdragon 625) and the power cluster is ticking at 1.8GHz.

The chipset integrates 30 percent faster Adreno 508 GPU, X12 LTE modem, Spectra 160 ISP and Hexagon 642 DSP.

1. Moto X4

Moto X4 is one of the first few phones powered by Snapdragon 630 that are available in India. The handset comes in two variant: 4GB RAM+ 64GB storage and 3GB RAM+ 32GB storage. The Moto X4 features glass on both front and back. On the rear, there are two rear cameras where the second is used for capturing wide-angle shots. It ships with Android 7.1.1 Nougat as of now but will be upgraded to Android Oreo somewhere down the road.

There are several nifty software features onboard like the Moto Key that lets you authenticate log-in on Windows PC using your phone’s fingerprint sensor. You can also use it to stream audio to 4 Bluetooth speakers simultaneously.

2. Nokia 7

Nokia 7 launched late last year tried to pass on high-end Nokia 8 features and experience at a more competitive price. This metal body and dual camera phone has been exclusive to China since its launch, but we have heard rumors that Nokia might, after all, bring it to India sooner rather than later.

The handset has a compact 5.2-inch screen, Zeiss optics, 4GB/6GB RAM and 64GB storage. Out of the box, the handset runs stock Android Nougat, but the Oreo update is planned too.

3. Nokia 6 (2018)

If not the Nokia 7, the second generation Nokia 6 has a high probability of making it to India. The new Nokia 6 is powered by Snapdragon 630 processor paired with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage.

Surprisingly, it doesn’t take to either the full-view or the dual camera trend. What you get instead is the regular 5.5-inch full HD display panel, 16MP AF rear camera, and an 8MP selfie shooter on the front. Other highlights include 3000mAh battery, pure Android Nougat software, and rear-mounted fingerprint sensor.

4. Sony Xperia XA2 and XA2 Ultra

Sony launched two new mid-range phones at CES 2018 – the Xperia XA2 and Xperia XA2 Ultra – and both are powered by Snapdragon 630 octa-core chipset. The dual-SIM variants of the two are likely to make it to India in the next couple of months.

The Xperia XA2 Ultra is a dual selfie camera phone (OIS + wide angle lens) and the XA2 is the comparatively compact sibling that makes do with single selfie shooter. Both phones have metallic bodies, USB Type-C port, 23MP rear camera, and run the latest Android Oreo-based software out of the box.

5. HTC U11 Life

HTC U11 Life is the first Android One phone from HTC. It’s a plastic body phone that still looks quite premium. The phone has a 5.2-inch display and is powered by Snapdragon 630 chipset paired with 3GB RAM/ 4GB RAM and 32GB/64GB storage.

The phone comes bundled with an impressive pair of headphones, has active sense technology (that allows it to detect squeezes), offers decent camera performance, and is also IP67 water and dust resistance certified.

6. Asus Zenfone 4

The Asus Zenfone 4 isn’t very likely to launch in India anymore but it’s available in global markets. The Zenfone 4 was among the first set of phones to adopt the new Snapdragon 630 chipset. The handset also has 4GB RAM and 64GB storage backing it up.

Other features include a front fingerprint sensor, 12MP+8MP dual rear cameras, 8MP selfie camera, dual SIM support, and 3300mAh battery.

7. Asus Zenfone 5 Lite

The Asus Zenfone 5 Lite was announced at the MWC 2018 and likely to head towards India soon. The phone comes with a 6-inch full-view display with 18:9 aspect ratio and 2.5D curved glass.

Apart from the Snapdragon 630 chipset, it will pack 4GB RAM and 64GB of storage. Asus has also announced Snapdragon 430 chipset variant with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage. In optics, the Zenfone 5 Lite comes with dual camera setup on both front and back.
