Pixel C – Tablet-Laptop Hybrid

Instead of a regular Nexus Tablet, Google has something different this time around. Pixel C is the new 10.2 Inch Andorid slate, which is also the first tablet built end-to-end by Google, designed for productivity oriented users. Working principle is same as, say, Surface Pro 3 or iPad Pro, and a swanky key-board accessory, which firmly and magnetically hinges to the Pixel C is what you will be buying alongside.

The Pixel C flaunts an Aluminum body design and will set you back by $499 or $599, depending on the storage variant you choose. The keyboard will cost another $149. The tablet will be available by the end of this year and more details about the hardware will emerge close to the launch.

Chromecast 2.0 and Chromecast Audio

Google also showcased Chromecast 2.0 with revamped design and a couple more bright colors. An HDMI cable curls and magnetically latches around, and this should reduce wire mess around your TV. The major improvement however is the new Chromecast App, and better integration of Chromecast in all other Google apps.

Chromecast 2.0 will support dual channel WiFi, has smarter firmware, stream 1080p content and will cost the same $35 as the last generation dongle.

CHROMECAST AUDIO

Google also introduced Chromecast Audio, another dongle which directly plugs into your speakers and streams music from Cloud and other online sources!

Nexus Imprint Fingerprint Sensor

Google talked about several improvements, but this one is worth re-iterating. Since Android 6.0 Marshmallow includes APIs for fingerprint sensor, we can expect to see them integrated even on budget devices very soon. Google talked about the imprint fingerprint sensor that it has used on new Nexus phones.

The new sensor can recognize your fingerprints in less than 600 milliseconds. The best thing is, that it learns more about your fingerprint and the way you scan it and thus will improve its accuracy with time.

Nexus Protect

Google is also offering two year insurance with Nexus phones, apart from the standard 1 year warranty, for a little extra money.  You can get the insurance on Nexus 5x for $69 and for Nexus 6P at $89 if you purchase from Google Store.

The insurance will cover you against accidental damage for 2 years and you can claim replacement phones twice for a deductible of $79. Most people will get replacement phones within 24 hours of filing claim.

Conclusion

Google had an interesting event last night and this pretty much sums up what you need to know for now. You can also watch the event stream again on Google’s Youtube channel.
