Intex India added two new entry-level smartphones – Aqua 5.5 VR and Aqua Craze ii – to their ever expanding Aqua series portfolio.  The Intex Aqua 5.5 VR will retail exclusively on Flipkart for 5,099 INR and the Aqua Craze II will be available at offline retail outlets for 5,990 INR.

As the naming conventions explicitly suggest, the Aqua 5.5VR is compatible with a VR headset. That essentially means that it comes with a gyroscope sensor, which isn’t all that common in ultra-cheap Androids. Further, a mere 720p HD resolution on a relatively large 5.5-inch display reduces all that VR talk to marketing humbug.

Other hardware features include 1.2GHz Quad- Core MT6737 chipset, 1GB RAM, 8GB storage, 32GB MicroSD card support, 5MP camera on both front and rear and a 2800mAh battery.

The Aqua Craze II has a smaller 5-inch HD display, a slightly smaller 2500mAh battery and is powered by 1.2GHz Quad- Core Spreadtrum SC9832A chip. Rest of the hardware remains same (save for the VR support, of course)

Both handsets are running Android 6.0 Marshmallow software with integrated value added services like LFTY and Matrabhasha.  The LFTY feature provides curated content to users on the left home screen pane, while Martabhasha refers to extensive support for 21 Indian regional languages.

Commenting on the launch of both the phones, Mr. Unnikrishnan Mohandas, Product Head- Intex Technologies said, “As a technology innovator, it is important for Intex to add valuable assets to the portfolio and create an industry benchmark. After extensive research and user inputs, we developed the Aqua 5.5VR & Aqua Craze II that promise to deliver improved quality of selfies as well as multitasking and better connectivity. Moreover, the improved features like Matrabhasha and in-house VAS feature named LFTY add to the USP of the product.”
