You get what you pay for !

I was looking for a tablet under the 20k price range and started my search online as in stores you mostly find cheap good for nothing tablets to try. After reading a lot about budget and mid-range tablets I zeroed in this Asus tablet and Samsung Tab A and the newer Asus Zenpad 8. The Samsung Tablet has lower screen resolution and is wider (4:3 aspect ratio) and has a weaker processor. But still looks and feels good to hold. I really wanted the 4:3 Aspect ratio but for 3k more it just wasn't worth. Then comes the newer Asus zenpad 8, which again has a similar configuration as the fonepad but lacks stereo speakers and is single SIM 4G. For me 4G was not a consideration at all since m happy with 3G speeds that too with dual 3G. But my main consideration was Performance in which the newer ZenPad fails. It is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor downclocked to 1.36ghz. Its a processor known for overheating and with reduced clock speed the performance is more or less similar to the intel processor in the fonepad. But the real difference in GPU, the GPU used in intel processor is twice as powerful the one in snapdragon processor. And for those looking for Antutu Scores, the atom processor on my fonepad scores 36k+ points whereas on the newer zenpad its max 32k. So I finally decided to get this Asus Tablet. So here is my review after using it for a good 15 days. Firstly, the 1st tablet I got had some cracking sound in the top speaker which eventually after 4 days made the speaker give just crackling and distorted sound. So I asked for a replacement and thanks to Flipkart I got the replacement in 5 days. Now coming to the second tablet which is still running fine with me: Screen: The screen is really excellent for watching videos and movies with great color but is just average to about good for text and everything else. Its only due to low screen resolution of 1280X800px. its not bad but Asus could have added a full HD display for this otherwise great tablet. After buying this tablet and comparing it with my friends who have Xiaomi MI Pad and Apple tablets, I have come to the conclusion and would advice others when getting a device with 7" and above screen don't settle for anything less than full HD. I wanted calling functionality and couldn't find a better option in this budget.Touch response just about good on this tablet. Sound: The sound quality from the stereo speakers is average. There is simply zero bass from the speakers, even my Samsung Galaxy s4 with single speaker has much more bass than this. The speakers can go loud but with highly treble filled sound lacking details. Coming to the headphone output. The output is really loud but lacks quality. Even equalizer apps cannot help much. I would definitely advice against this tablet if you are buying it primarily for listening to music whether from the speakers or thru headphones. Camera: The camera quality is nothing to talk about. Its simply poor. There are much better front and better rear cameras available in phones half the price of this tablet. Usually tablets don't have good cameras as seen with other brands but on this one they are poor not even average. Calling: This is a dual SIM 3G calling tablet and does very well in this department. Call quality is loud and crisp. Signal reception is good as well. And 3G data connection works very well on both SIMs. The microphone is just about okay. This was one of my main reasons to buy this tablet and it excels in this. Performance: The tablet has 64bit Intel atom processor which is quite capable, coupled with 2 GB ram it runs fast and quite lag free. Overall its a nice package only marred by buggy Asus Firmware. I updated this tablet to Lollipop 5.0 update the day I got it. And had to format it after that as I had wifi not connecting issue after the update. Asus bundles a lot of utilities with their firmware but the problem is they are not optional and forced onto you and also eat into the performance of the tablet to some extent. Some can be disabled though. But the biggest problem here is Firmware bugs: 1. Biggest 1 is contrast issue: The screen contrast gets very high randomly and then slowly comes to normal. Its totally random. Asus people are quiet about is problem even on Asus Forums. This problem is there since months to date stands unresolved. I can live with it so I don't mind that much. 2. Asus people are also quiet about any future updates like android 5.1.1 for this tablet. So if you want the latest and greatest android experience, I would suggest look elsewhere. Overall its a very nice package in 14k. My final ratings: Looks: 4.5 out of 5 Build Quality: 4.3 of 5 Camera: 1.9 of 5 Performance: 4.1 of 5 Calling: 4 of 5 Overall 4 of 5

Paisa wasool tablet

Hi all, When I started looking out for tablets, there were two conditions. Good screen resolution & Voice call with 3g. That is because, my purpose is for reading (magazines & articles - no, not studies) & occassional games. After detailed reviews for 2 months, I finally filtered on Lenovo S8 or Asus fonepad 8. I realized that price of S8 never came down (other than during 2 offer sale days). This hurt my ego. So I bought Asus fonepad 8 for 13999/-. (The next day flipkart had an offer, selling at Rs.12,600. So guys, look out for offers before you click on 'buy') I feel you can as well buy one. Reasons for it: Front facing speakers are really LOUD & dont get distorted. (Nice to see heads turning :-) )Sound has so many predefined settings like 'gaming mode', 'music mode' etc Colour setting has many predefined settings to ensure viewing comfort. Music app is ample - I never had to download any third party application (TPA). Gallery has settings like slideshow, mini movie - user has to select pics & tab creates the slideshow & movie. OTG facility - for those who dont know, I can connect my 1TB HDD to this tab :-) Asus doesn’t provide OTG cable. On a full charge, tab can stand for a whole day. Charger that comes with the tab does a full charge in flat 2 hours. 2GB of RAM - I am able to play high power games like hitman sniper & asphalt airborne easily. (Even 'task manager' & 'auto-start apps' comes packed) 16GB internal memory. I have an SD card of 8GB which makes the total size to 24GB & occasionally I even connect the 1TB HDD. Hahaha (in a wicked tone!!) Unlike some tabs, not much TPA is required. You just buy the tab and start enjoying Asus advantage of android. Of course, play store is available right from start. Other Asus features like 'what’s next', 'super note', 'party link' & 'play to' are really innovative. Added features like 'auto call record', 'data transfer' are really nice. On the whole, users will forget going to play store. Tab is really thin & light. The rear side has a rugged feel. Although, the tab is thin, screen feels sturdy and handles strong pokes. In spite of extended hours of gaming, Youtube watching & whatsapp yapping, device battery lasted a day & never got heated. File manager is amazing & works like a file explorer. Drag & drop from removable devices to internal or vice versa, is so simple. On my first boot only I received an OTA update of Android lollipop. Based on the few minutes I got to use the tab in Android 4.4, I strongly feel that the device has got faster. Reasons against it: No FM Radio No Flash (Reader must be thinking, "yeah yeah, why dont you write 'no mixie, no grinder'?". Let me tell you, Lenovo S8 does have flash) Messaging app is the most basic I have seen. In the age of spam that we live in (I get at least 10 unnecessary messages), deleting/ blocking messages takes effort. Considering the expectation they have set themselves, Asus must have got a better app. Camera interface (both back & front) have lot of nice settings - but the camera itself fails poorly. Sometimes shots taken using selfie camera, with zoom setting at ‘0’, shows only half my face. (that is more because of the distance we are able to hold the 8 inch tab at). Videos taken in back camera sometimes shows jumpy vertical lines. Getting accessories like cover, quality screen guard is a challenge. Honestly, there aren’t many choices. Some were costly & some had users complaining about quality. Although it has 2 sim card trays, considering the screen size, it will not be suited as your primary phone. So get a reliable primary phone - nokia 1100 types. Other relevant points: When you switch apps/ switch it on, for initial few seconds user can notice colors showing bland or washed out. That is because, the screen is adjusting as per what is displayed at that moment. For a few days, I felt my device was a faulty piece. The on/off switches are too protruding. So, sometimes when tab bumps against objects, it leads to hard-reset the tab. Not possible to add music widget to the lock screen. Thus, to change song, user needs to unlock tab. All in all, I strongly feel happy about owning the tab. Seeing the screen size & high resolution, some friends have been commenting that it is an LED TV in a tab (Remember Onida's catch phrase?. So, I don't care) Btw, If you can wait for few more days, pls do, at least for Zenpad. As on review date, Zenpad 7.0 & 8.0 have been launched in India in same price bracket & comes with additional features like ‘5.1 channel audio cover’ & ‘battery cover’. Might be, if you wait, price of the same fonepad 8 could be reduced. Anyways, all the best in your tablet hunt. Hope this usage review helped you in some manner.

Super8 & Tab for under 15K! ;)

Pretty decent speeds, upgrades to Lollipop as soon as you turn it on... so pretty much kick-ass specs for under 15K! No problems so far.. and the battery is 4000 mAh btw. Lots and lots of backup! Front camera is BAD: you have you place the tab somewhere and then go away at least a 4 ft to get a proper video call face into the frame. Rear cam is okay, didn't buy the for the cameras tho!
