Sony may've parted ways with Ericsson but they still seem to hang out at some of the places they used to go together. One thing's for sure, the Xperia go won't mind being around the Xperia active, even if it finds itself under the occasional meter of water. The Xperia go feels less sporty and muscular than its predecessor but we think it's one of the better-looking durable phones you can get. The solid single-color-body with no flashy accents is perhaps a bit too conservative but we don't mind at all. read more →
- IP67 certified for dust and water resistance, wet-finger tracking
- Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE support
- 3G with 7.2 Mbps HSDPA and 5.76 Mbps HSUPA
- 3.5" 16M-color LED-backlit LCD capacitive touchscreen of HVGA resolution (320 x 480 pixels) at around 165 ppi
- Bravia Mobile engine
- No ICS out of the box
- Screen resolution a bit low by today's standards
- No arm case and wrist strap in the bundle (ala the Sony Ericsson Xperia active)- available in the Xperia go "Sports Edition"
- No hardware camera shutter key
- No secondary camera, no video calls
Stunning to look at and comfortable in the hand, from the box the Sony Xperia Go is an all-round hit. Sadly with continued use the Sony Xperia Go fails to live up to these initial high expectations, with a number of irritating niggles emerging to add a slight air of infuriation to what is a largely well rounded device. Although the Sony Xperia Go is not going to set the smartphone world alight, for anyone looking for a handset that is both beautiful on the eye and able to stand up to whatever you can throw at it, there is no better option than the Sony Xperia Go. read more →
- Stunning design
- Rugged IP67 certification
- Largely impressive camera
- Speedy, easy internet
- Broad media capabilities
- No physical camera button
- No auto spacing in gesture control
- Speaker placement
- Slight lag
- Stiff connection covers
Call quality: The Sony Xperia go is a fine device for voice calls. Unfortunately, the earpiece is a bit weak, so you may have a bit of a trouble hearing your callers if you happen to be in a noisy place, but overall the sound is pleasing. The microphone of the device is once again the star of the show, as it manages to transmit your voice with some very good loudness and clarity, which is also thanks to the noise-cancellation feature. read more →
- Water- and dust-resistant
- 1GHz dual-core processor
- Good HD video capture
- Very cheap-feeling plastic build
- Low-resolution screen
The Sony Xperia go is a handset that delivers fast performance from its 1GHz dual-core processor. However, its low-resolution screen isn't impressive, and the handset is pricey compared with its competition. Sony's Xperia go is a fine handset that offers a lot more value compared with Motorola's Defy XT. If you need something for your active outdoor lifestyle and don't want something as big as the Xperia acro S, the Xperia go would be our choice. read more →
- 5-megapixel camera takes good pictures without lag
- zippy performance
- good battery life
- will get Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade.
- Low-resolution HVGA 3.5-inch display
- comes running Gingerbread (Android 2.3)
- may be a bit pricey at S$488.
The Sony Xperia Go is one of the most attractive "rugged" phones we've seen. It's slim, it's small and it runs the versatile Android OS. However, its rugged credentials don't extend beyond waterproofing and dust protection, and thanks to the low-res screen it feels like you're trading in a lot to have the option of dunking it in a pint of water if it misbehaves. read more →
- Waterproof to 1m
