Sony Ericsson is introducing new additions to their refreshed Android lineup as we speak. With newly found processing power, bigger high-res screens and HD video, even the new Xperia minis are children who will prey on their parents. The difference between old and new Xperia just cannot be overstated. And the Neo is certainly a part of that.
Therell be enough room for the Xperia Neo to hide behind its bigger siblings back. read more →
- Quad-band GSM /GPRS/EDGE support
- 3G with 7.2 Mbps HSDPA and 5.76 Mbps HSUPA
- 3.7" 16M-color capacitive LED-backlit LCD touchscreen of FWVGA resolution (480 x 854 pixels) on Sony Mobile BRAVIA engine
- Android OS v2.3 Gingerbread
- 1 GHz Scorpion CPU, Adreno 205 GPU, Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8255 chipset
- Display has poor viewing angles
- The competition has dual-core CPUs, 1080p video
- No smart dialing
- Loudspeaker has below average performance
- No DivX/XviD support
So, how worthy is the Xperia Neo? That all depends on how you plan to use it. If you look to a smartphone as a relatively basic, all-in-one communication tool, and you do a lot of old-fashioned stuff with it (like phoning people) then you'll find a lot to like about the Neo. The price is attractive, as is the fact that you don't have to worry too much about scratching the plastic case or bulking it out with military-grade sleeves. read more →
- Decent build quality
- Vibrant screen
- Mostly vanilla Android
- Two-minute boot time
- Native camera app over-compresses images
- Hard to type accurately, especially in portrait
With a slightly lbetter-lit screen, the media features of the Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo might have wowed us a little more. As it is, it's a functional little mite, with high usability and simple, one-handed navigation and operation.
Overall, this mid-range Android offering from Sony Ericsson is actually pretty decent, and the specs are impressive. On closer inspection they didn't blow us away, but if you're looking for a reasonably priced, media-heavy phone with a screen size to rival the Apple iPhone 4, then this will stand you in good stead. read more →
- Navigation is swift and judderless
- 8MP camera
- Connectivity is fantastic and the browser loads quickly
- Mini-HDMI port connection
- Comfortable and easy to use one-handed
- The 3.7-inch screen somehow feels a little smaller than it should
- Colours aren't as bright as expected and don't pop on screen
- Sound quality is poor if not using the provided headset
- Video capture isn't as high quality as expected
- Aesthetics not to everyone's taste
Performance:A phone is above all a phone and that's why we were pleased to hear a very loud, crystal clear sound coming from the earpiece of the Xperia neo. Our callers reported hearing our voice in all of its natural tones with no side sounds thanks to the noise cancellation dual-microphone setup that Sony Ericsson has used. The 1500mAh battery sounds good by itself with a quoted 7 hours of talk time on a 3G network, but real-life performance was slightly underwhelming as the handset sometimes struggled to get us through the day. read more →
- Refined, signature design
- Outstanding call/audio quality
- Punchy colors with the Mobile Bravia engine
- Sub-par camera
- Disappointing battery life
- Below average sunlight legibility
We’re impressed with the Neo, sure the design is very last year and the screen feels a little small, but it’s well built and equipped with the latest version of Android with some user-friendly Sony Ericsson additions. It’s a well-featured handset too, with a good 8-megapixel camera, DLNA and HDMI, great features for a phone for available for £25 on contract. In the mid-tier smartphone market it deserves to do well and it has certainly whetted our appetite for the Arc and its superior screen. read more →
