Rethink and renew is what Sony Ericsson are quite keen to do and the Aino is among the agents of change. Perhaps it doesn't have a stronger case for innovation than the Satio and the X10, but staying in touch with history is just as important. Obviously, part of Aino's responsibility is to carry on a tradition of feature phone excellence that climaxed in the Sony Ericsson C905 and W995.
Cybershot and Walkman are still magic words in the world of mobile phones. read more →

- Tri-band 3G with 7.2Mbps HSDPA, 2Mbps HSUPA
- 8 megapixel autofocus camera with LED flash; geotagging, touch-focus, face detection, image stabilization; VGA video recording @ 30fps
- Some degree of touchscreen functionality - touch-enabled media and camera interface
- No standard USB port
- No 3.5mm audio jack (but there's one on the Bluetooth headset)
- Touch control is limited to camera, gallery, multimedia players and some Java apps
- Media library updates very slowly in the touch media menu

We liked the Aino a lot when we got it out the box, and our opinion dwindled downwards from there. When the main selling point isn't fully functional (ie, the PS3 compatibility isn't up to speed) and both the camera and media player are slow to react, we're struggling to find a reason to recommend this phone.
The Sony Ericsson W995 has the same UI, but is a lot faster, and comes in a nicer chassis, has a faster camera, a 3.5mm headphone jack and crucially is around £120 cheaper to buy. read more →
- Good GPS signal
- Easy to use media interface
- Decent build quality
- Well laid-out interface
- BBC iPlayer included in the box
- Laggy operating system
- Poor battery life
- Sporadic PS3 connectivity
- Constantly updating memory card
- High price for a feature phone
Now it´s about time we use our imaginary scales, weight up the positive features of the handset against its shortcomings and see if it´s ultimately worth it. On the one hand, we´ve got excellent multimedia capabilities – great camera, super audio quality through the boxed Bluetooth hands-free and a large screen ideal for videos. On the other, the browser is quite bad, the keypad is unhandy and the touch-sensitivity of the screen is limited, meaning you would have to open the slider anytime you need to do even simple things. read more →

- Very good screen sensitivity (where available)
- Unhandy keyboard and navigational keys
- Sluggish browser with lots of software bugs
- Limited touch-screen functionality
- Far too expensive
The Sony Ericsson Aino's luscious display and multimedia offerings make it one of the better unlocked phones we've seen this year. read more →
- The Sony Ericsson Aino has a beautiful display, an intuitive interface, great multimedia features, Remote Play compatibility, Wi-Fi, GPS with Google Maps and geotagging, and good call quality. We also like that it comes with a desktop charging dock plus a stereo Bluetooth headset.
- The Sony Ericsson Aino's touch-screen interface is limited to the media browser, it has no 3.5mm headset jack, and the navigation keys are a little small. Some may find the price tag a little steep.
