We really loved the Samsung F480 and we were more than happy to welcome its successor. Now, if you look at it that way, upgrading the Tocco is a serious task but the Pixon seems well up to it. It's true though that quad-band GSM support and accelerometer are the only non-imaging related upgrades. The rest - 8MP camera, high-res video recording, DivX/XviD playback, and TV out - leave no doubt that the Pixon is all about multimedia.
Anyway, the Pixon may be a couple of high-tech goodies short but what's there makes perfect sense. read more →
- 3.2" 256K-color TFT LCD touchscreen display of WQVGA resolution
- 8 megapixel autofocus camera with LED flash and lens protection
- Camera geo-tagging, auto-panorama shot, face, smile and blink detection, digital image stabilization
- WVGA video recording at 30fps
- Slimmest 8MP phone
- No Wi-Fi connectivity
- No voice-guided GPS navigation
- Stylus as dongle only, no stylus compartment
- No smart dialing
Samsung's touchscreen user interface has been improved on this model, too, making it a comfortable finger-driven device. It doesn't have everything though, the lack of Wi-Fi and smartphone functionality, and limited in-box storage compared to higher end heavyweight mobiles, lessening its non-photo appeal for some users. In that respect, it's more an upgraded Tocco than a touch-i8510.

Samsung has chosen the right direction for development of their touchscreen phones. The experiments with the Croix interface were not successful so the company had to follow the trends. Colors were added to the menus, but neither the software nor the functionality of F480 was finely designed. First the OMNIA, and now with the Pixon, everything is changing. The new model not only has a very user-friendly interface but excellent functionality. This is probably the first phone which can actually compete with the iPhone and although its music player is not that attractive, it performs very well with quality sound. read more →

The Pixon is an excellent choice if you are in the market for a touchscreen camera-phone which produces image quality that can rival midrange compact digicams. The Samsung Pixon and the LG Renoir are like peas in a pod. When we were writing this review, it seemed as if we were looking at the Renoir for a second time. The two handsets have nearly identical features, although in terms of design, we felt the Pixon has a slight edge with a more conventional look. A lot has been said about camera-phones replacing dedicated digital cameras. read more →
