Samsung I9000 Galaxy S review: From outer space

We tested the Samsung I9000 Galaxy S and it tested us in return. It bared its teeth at us and so did we. Ours was a grin. Easy boy, good beast. There goes the new leader of the Android pack. The Samsung I9000 Galaxy S has oomph to spare and even hardened geeks like us cannot help but acknowledge its compelling power.

If you are looking for the ultimate Android device, there are very few things really to make you consider another handset. read more →

  • Quad-band GSM and tri-band 3G support
  • 7.2 Mbps HSDPA and 5.76 Mbps HSUPA support
  • 4" 16M-color Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen of WVGA (480 x 800 pixel) resolution
  • Android OS v2.1 with TouchWiz 3.0 UI customization
  • 1GHz Cortex A8 Hummingbird CPU; 512 MB of RAM
  • No flash for the camera
  • No dedicated camera key
  • The all-plastic body is a real fingerprint magnet
  • Feeble loudspeaker

Looks like an iPhone. But now tastes like Gingerbread

Samsung obviously sees a future in the Galaxy S line, which is why it is continuing to push an 'old' handset when the new one is selling by the truckload.

There are a few faults, but on the whole it's a cracking bit of kit, and you really could do a lot worse. You can't do much better for the price, put it that way. read more →

  • Superb screen
  • Cheaper price
  • Slim chassis
  • Great audio quality
  • HD video recording
  • No unified inbox
  • No more updates?
  • Wi-Fi not too strong
  • No camera flash

Samsung GALAXY S I9000 Review

We'd be hard pressed not to acknowledge Samsung's recent efforts in the smartphone market. It even introduced its own mobile OS recently, but for this particular handset, Samsung is counting on Android, which certainly seems like the right thing to do. Samsung is also keeping the innovation going on hardware level, where the Samsung GALAXY S I9000 benefits from a giant Super AMOLED screen  and a 1GHz Hummingbird CPU.  All in all, we think the Samsung GALAXY S is a really cool phone, with just a few quirks, the biggest of which is the lack of camera flash. read more →

  • 4” Super AMOLED screen
  • High-definition video with 30fps
  • Plays DivX/Xvid video in big resolutions
  • Preinstalled documents editor
  • Start time is on the slow side with some applications
  • No flash leads to poor low light performance
  • Plastic look and feel

Samsung Galaxy S review

The Galaxy S should have been a cracking handset and in many ways it is. Its screen is very good, it's fast, it's packed with features, and looks pretty decent as well. Certainly if you're looking for a large and powerful Android smartphone, it's up there with the best. However, there's no escaping the fact that it feels like a blatant copy of a certain other phone and, moreover, it doesn't have the fit and finish to really make you want it. read more →

  • Vibrant AMOLED display
  • Fast processor
  • Customised interface works well
  • Less than perfect built quality
  • Mediocre battery life

Gone slow after 3 months of usage

It's an average Phone which created hate towards Samsung in me. I bought it at the price of 25000/- assuming I will not to buy another handset for 3 years. The predecessor of this phone was HTC P3400 which was doing good from last 4 years but it gave up after it played Holi.

Anyways the good/bad things will be in Pros and Cons List but here is mine long(not so actually) ownership.

So i bought this phone and paid 25000/- and came back to home. Started unpacking and plugged in the battery. Clicked the power button and Amazing display started working with cool looking S logo. I was staring the beautiful pixel density and suddenly i realized that I have spent enough time on this. When it will go to next screen? 1 min passed and then 2 and than 5. I pulled off the battery and restarted but the same error.
Ran back to shop and asked him for replacement. The guy was nut. He tried and then started deaasenbling the set. I asked him for replacement and he was insisiting for repair. Anyways after little struggle I got new handset. Tested it very well there for 30 minutes.

Now things were fine and I was amazed by the performance and display. Flaunted everywhere with pride. The only problem was with it's limited RAM i wasnt able to install so many applications but that's not something you can't live with it. Also there was no option to upgrade to Android v 2.3. This was serious issue as v 2.2 doesnt support hindi fonts.

After 3 months, I installed some high end games and there was serious lag in phone. To the extent of Horror, phone use to hang is call comes in between. Here also I compromised  and stopped playing games.

Now the browser has developed a problem and used to display error message followed by a phone hang. Gradually the condition was going more worst. Now lag was permanent and phone hang problem was more frequent. Moment you decide to call someone and open phonebook, OMG!!! it will take ages to open phonebook.

Now I though that's my improper management of Contacts in Google. So I resorted by Google Contacts, created a seperate group for my phone contacts.

I did a factory reset for my phone, while configuring phonebook, I carefully configured it to select contacts from dedicated contact group. Now things were fine and phone was working smoothly. But for how long will the goats mommy will have fun? Again the same symtoms have started appearing within 15 days.

Than I have said good bye to phone, bought a Micromax A116 (Still living it with since Feb 12).

One day I forgiven the Samsung and thought to give it a try. Actually wanted a dedicated GPS for my car as MMX dont have G-Sensor. So booted by Samsung I9000, formatted it was back in business. With serious lags in a blank phone. Why there is a lag if nothing is intalled, no music or big files.

Seriously this phone had shaken the trust from smartphones specially from Samsung.

  • Label of expensive phone and brand name
  • has WiFi direct to communicate with your smart TV
  • 16 GB internal memory
  • Super smooth touch

  • Hang up quite often
  • No upgrade to 2.3
  • No Hindi Fonts available
  • Speech recognizer never recognized a single word from me
  • For apps installation, limited memory available
