Samsung I9070 Galaxy S Advance review: While-u-wait

The Galaxy S Plus, Galaxy SL and the Galaxy R must be anxiously looking at each other wondering which one will need to move aside to make room for the newcomer. We don't think any of them needs to worry too much. It's the original Galaxy S that should be ready to pack up and call it a day. Good going.

With the Galaxy Nexus and the Note doing their best to keep Samsung in the spotlight, the Koreans are filling in some blanks in the upper midrange and keeping the troops sharp and focused for the arrival of the new flagship. read more →

A mid-range Galaxy smartphone to impress Android fans

Entering an area of the market filled with competition, the Samsung Galaxy S Advance sets itself apart on a hardware front more than on the software side of things.

Relatively samey to phones that have preceded it, the handset's saving grace is one that is hard to argue with - a £330/$330 price that will have your wallets as happy as you are with your latest smartphone that will last you until the Samsung Galaxy S3 becomes old hat. read more →

Samsung Galaxy S Advance Review

Overall, the Samsung Galaxy S Advance has absolutely no major drawbacks, which makes it a splendid mid-range Android device. We are more than content with its design, the hardware has no troubles handling every day tasks with ease, and the in-call audio quality is absolutely ear-pleasing. Add the smartphone's well-justified price tag to the equation and you get a clear winner in this category. It may be a bit disappointing to see that the aging Android 2.3 Gingerbread comes pre-loaded, but having the handset's capable hardware in mind, we really hope that an update to Ice Cream Sandwich will come sooner or later. read more →

  • Great in-call audio quality
  • Fluid performance
  • Gingerbread at launch
  • Camera could have been better

Samsung Galaxy S Advance i9070 review

Overall, the Galaxy S Advance is a good, all round package. It's got decent performance thanks to its dual core processor, the screen is excellent and the camera isn’t half bad either. Why the middling score then? The problem is that Samsung's pricing seems a bit off as you can find the company's own Galaxy SII on contract for a similar price, while the likes of the speedier HTC Sensation XE is cheaper when bough SIM free. As such, the Galaxy S Advance falls between two stools, at least until Samsung lowers the phone's price a bit. read more →

  • Great AMOLED screen
  • Speedy dual core processor
  • Good camera
  • can buy better handsets for similar money
