A first capacitive screen for Nokia and a first truly high-end device in the XpressMusic lineup, the X6 is a phone that requires attention. It's good that Nokia do try and improve their touchscreens and respond to users' demands.
Don't get us wrong - we are pleased with Nokia for giving their users a choice. It's great that they are creating handsets for different customers, rather than relying on the one-size-fit-all approach. read more →
- Quad-band GSM support
- Tri-band 3G with HSDPA support
- 3.2" 16M-color TFT LCD 16:9 capacitive touchscreen (360 x 640 pixels)
- Symbian S60 5th edition UI
- ARM 11 434 MHz CPU, 128 MB of RAM memory
- X6 is still quite pricey (around 500 euro at the time of writing)
- UI is still immature with somewhat inconsistent user experience
- Touch web browser not quite polished and with dodgy Flash support
- No voice-guided navigation license
- No office document viewer preinstalled
The Nokia X6 looks better on paper than it is in real life. The capacitive screen and 32GB of internal memory should ensure that it's great for multimedia, while the flexible Symbian operating system allows plenty of flexibility.
It's undeniably nicely made, and certain crucial features, such as typing messages, work better on this device than they have on any other Nokia touchscreen phone. However, we encountered performance issues every day we used the X6. read more →
- Looks great
- Masses of storage
- Good on-screen keyboard
- Plenty of multimedia features
- Powerful operating system
- Occasionally very sluggish
- Inconsistent interface
- Screen can feel cramped
- Ovi store still not at its best
The Nokia X6 performs very well during talks. Voices of people sounded realistic and pretty loud on our end of the line during the tests. We have to admit the in-call quality is one of the best we have evidenced to date. Our callers didn’t have any complaints either and didn’t mention any issues like problems relating to unintelligible voices or surreal sound even on a single occasion. The battery is a tough performer as well and provides 6 hours of continuous talk and keeps the handset operational for up to 420 hours in standby. read more →
- Capacitive screen with proper sensitivity
- 32GB memory and access to Nokia´s Comes With Music service
- High audio playback and in-call quality
- Robust battery
- Extremely pricey
- Mediocre camera
- Second-rate video codec support
- Boring overall design
- No software novelties
The X6 delivers first-class features in a second-rate package. The excellent camera and media player are tarnished by a clunky on-screen keyboard and a sometimes confusing user experience.
The X6 will most certainly please some people more than others. People who value phone calls over text messages and who would love to trade in their iPod will find the X6 to be a suitable handset, especially those who are already familiar with Nokia's sometimes confusing operating system. read more →
- Excellent 5MP camera
