Nokia N85 review: Nseries revved up

The good thing Nokia N85 does is take (almost) all the Nseries have delivered to date and put it in a neat and tasteful package. There are no groundbreaking novelties but what you get is quite worth it. And the display well you do need to see it.

While the N85 certainly doesn't have the best 5MP camera on the market or the best styling there is, it is certainly one of the best all-rounders we've encountered. read more →

  • 2.6" 16M-color OLED display of QVGA resolution
  • 5 megapixel autofocus camera with dual-LED flash and AF assist light
  • Camera lens cover
  • Symbian OS 9.3 with S60 3.2 UI
  • ARM 11 369 MHz CPU
  • No office document editing out of the box
  • Not the best sunlight legibility
  • Unconvincing camera performance
  • Poor Navi wheel performance
  • Zooming in on a picture takes bloody ages

A stylish sliderphone with an impressive set of features to boot

The Nokia N85 is an extremely powerful, feature-packed device with a head-spinning degree of versatility, offering almost all the working functionality of the N96 but in a slimmer package. An impressive addition to the Nseries roster. read more →

  • Dual slider
  • 5 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss lens
  • 16m colour screen
  • A-GPS and Nokia Maps software
  • 8GB microSD card with maps and tunes
  • Smallish keypad
  • LED flash could be better for low light shooting

Nokia N85 Review

On the whole we are quite disappointed by the N85 due the total lack of new features. It’s not a bad phone, but there are no innovations compared to previous models. The OLED display is indeed good, unless it’s exposed to direct sunlight. The poor video support means you won’t be able to watch high-quality clips or even movies. In all other aspects the N85 isn’t innovative, but it’s just fine – a smartphone with a nice browser, satisfying audio performance and camera. read more →

  • Magnificent image of the organic display
  • Loud and high-quality sound no matter whether you’re talking or listening to music with the headphones
  • A good camera
  • It’s not offering anything new, besides the cool display
  • Its overall build quality doesn’t match its high price
  • The Navi wheel sensor is almost unusable
  • The camera shutter is not user-friendly
  • The captured videos freeze

Nokia N85 copper review (unlocked)

The Nokia N85 may not offer as much memory as the N95 or N96, but it offers just as many features and a sleeker design, making it a better value in our book. read more →

  • The Nokia N85 features a sleeker design and more solid construction than the N96 and N95. The smartphone also offers full wireless options as well as a 5-megapixel camera, a decent music player, and gaming support.
  • The N85's can be sluggish at times, particularly when viewing photos. Some navigation controls are stiff and difficult to use. The smartphone is also expensive and the Nokia Music Store hasn't fully launched in the United States.

Nokia N85

The N85 isn't a major upgrade from the previous two N95 models, at least not in terms of features. But if you are looking to replace them with a more stylish handset, the N85 is the one. The N85 has a lot going for it. In fact, we'd even go as far to say that we'd recommend this over the N96 , unless you need the larger 2.8-inch screen and DVB-H connectivity from the latter. If you are in the market for a stylish, feature-packed yet pocketable device, the N85 should be on your list for consideration. read more →

  • Excellent QVGA OLED display
  • full set of connectivity features
  • bundled with 8GB microSD card
  • stylish design
  • decent build quality.
  • Dual sliding mechanism not as smooth as we would like
  • flash is underpowered.
