The good news with Nokia N79 is the Nseries haven't completely run out of inspiration. No gaps in the feature set and distinct looks do sound right for a healthy demand. Solid value as a brand-loyal upgrade and little competition let the N79 hope for quite a success.
We still can't ignore the fact that N79 - and N85 for that matter - are being launched in a time of major transition. As Nokia are readying for S60 5th and touchscreen, N79 and the likes are taking over from the top dogs of the past, repackaging the whole set of goodies with a moderate price tag. read more →
- 2.4" 16M-color LCD TFT display of QVGA resolution
- 5 megapixel autofocus camera with dual-LED flash and AF assist light
- VGA video recording at 30fps
- Symbian OS 9.3 with S60 3.2 UI
- ARM 11 369 MHz CPU
- No smart dialing
- Doesn't charge off USB
- No office document editing out of the box
- Not the best camera performance
- Zooming in on a photo takes ages
The Nokia N79 a worthy update to the N78 with improvements in almost every sector at pretty much the same price. Even if you have no need for the personalisation or gaming options, it's still a great-looking, very versatile little smart phone. read more →
- 5 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss lens
- 16m colour screen
- A-GPS with Nokia Maps, 4GB microSD card with maps and tunes
- FM radio transmitter
- 'smart' covers
- Awkward keypad
- Small internal memory
In conclusion the N79 is a strong ‘all round’ handset. Although not innovative in design , it does sport the ‘intelligent’ changeable back covers which changes the phone’s theme, something that is unique in its own right. In addition to this, it does have some other nice little features and capabilities described in this review. Good multimedia, a host of connectivity functions plus an excellent internet browser are all wins for the N79. read more →
- Host of connectivity options
- Good battery life
- FM Transmitter
- Smaller screen compared to some other phones
- 5MP camera not the best in the market
The Nokia N79 might not be the star of the N series devices, but it still shines as a great multimedia smartphone with plenty of features and fast performance. read more →
- The Nokia N79 offers a slim and attractive design and packs in a load of multimedia features, including a 5-megapixel camera that takes excellent photos. The Symbian smartphone also features integrated Wi-Fi, U.S. 3G support, Bluetooth, and GPS.
- The N79's navigation controls and dialpad are a little cramped, and call quality was a bit mixed.
The Nokia N79 delivers extensive features, performs well and comes with intelligent covers that add something different to the Nseries. Overall, we enjoyed using the N79. Our only real complaint is the slightly flat keypad. The Nokia N79 isn't a ground-breaking phone, but we do like the intelligent-casing system and, as far as features go, we were satisfied with what was on offer, particularly the 3.5mm headphone jack and access to HSDPA and Wi-Fi. read more →
