Nokia C5-03 review: Green cadet

How many times must the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic have thought the golden watch was finally coming? By the looks of it, retirement is still a long way off. But the founding father should at least be getting used to being called gramps.

And what about the grandson here? OK, we have some good news and some bad. Were only not sure which is which. You see, the Nokia C5-03 isnt of the genetically mastered breed of Symbian^3. read more →

Nokia C5-03 Review

We appreciate Nokia's attempt to deliver an affordable smartphone but the dated Symbian^1 stands in the way of enjoying the almost full connectivity package and the 600MHz of processing power. Because of that, we feel that low-end Android handsets, such as the HTC Wildfire and the LG Optimus One , also have connectivity covered well and could be your alternative. There are plenty of setbacks that could break the deal for the C5-03: some of the apps like the gallery and the browser are just terribly slow, Symbian is stuffed with menus, which make you feel like you are in a maze, and finally the fixed focus camera does not impress. read more →

  • Affordable price
  • Connectivity well covered with 3G and Wi-Fi
  • Free navigation
  • Good battery life
  • Symbian^1 is dated
  • Camera lacks auto-focus
  • Poor video recording
  • Noticeable lag in some essential apps like the browser and the gallery

Nokia C5-03 (smartphone - GSM / UMTS)

The Nokia C5-03 is an ill-advised combination of outdated software and underperforming hardware. There are much better midrange phones available, for less money. read more →

Nokia C5-03 review

Overall, we're a little non-plussed by the C5. It's an acceptable phone that's using an OS in dire need of updating - if we'd had Symbian^3 on here, it might have been a little different. But see past the battery life, and you'll realise the likes of the HTC Wildfire offer better specs, a more attractive device and at a lower cost. If the Nokia C5-03 was £100 cheaper, then we'd be lauding it as one of the best budget smartphones out there - but at its current price point, it's mired in mediocrity. read more →
