If, after reading this article, you thought that Olympus and Canon should start trembling with fear, you are wrong. Image quality is one thing, but cameraphones lack the versatility of the larger sensor cameras with interchangeable optics, so DSLRs and EVILs won't be replaced any time soon. Nor was that Nokia's idea when designing the 808 PureView. The 41 megapixel sensor was set to annihilate smartphone competition and hopefully steal some users from the casual point and shoot camera market. read more →
The Nokia 808 PureView is getting a lot of attention - if nothing else, the Finns have sparked people's curiosity to unprecedented levels. This review is just the latest in a series of articles we've posted to try and cover every aspect of the most impressive cameraphone we've ever seen. In good light you can stand next to someone with a DSLR and keep your chin up. And with its xenon flash, the PureView comes out smiling even in most low-light scenarios. read more →
- 38 megapixel autofocus camera with xenon flash and 1080p@30fps video recording
- Two capture modes: 38MP/34MP full-res and 3MP/5MP/8MP PureView
- Camera features: giant 1/1.2" camera sensor, mechanical shutter, ND filter, geotagging, face detection, up to 4x lossless digital zoom
- Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE support
- Penta-band 3G with 14.4 Mbps HSDPA and 5.76 Mbps HSUPA support
- Symbian ecosystem lags behind Android and iOS
- nHD resolution wears thin on the 4" screen
- The phone is quite bulky and heavy
- Relatively limited 3rd party software availability
- microSIM support
The PureView 808 is easily the best cameraphone yet. But if you're obsessed with imaging quality, be prepared to compromise on performance and usability. The Nokia 808 PureView is the best cameraphone out there, but you'll have to be willing to forgo the simplicity, function and comfort of competing smartphones if you intend to own it. You also have to be seriously imaging-obsessed to handle this as your daily driver. read more →
- Best cameraphone ever
- Superb video and audio recording
- Screen easily viewable outdoors
- Low-res display
- App store lacks the range and breadth of rivals
- Symbian Belle OS is temperamental and unintuitive
Nokia execs at MWC said the company is extending PureView into other smartphones. But the current version of Windows Phone, 7.5, doesn't allow manufacturers enough control over their cameras for Nokia to add this technology. read more →
- 41-megapixel camera
- High quality audio recording
- May be compatible with both AT&T and T-Mobile 3G networks.
- No 4G
- Symbian OS isn't popular here
- Will not be released in U.S., at least officially.
The Nokia 808 PureView is not for everyone, mainly due to its high SIM free price and lack of availability through UK operators. For those of you out there that loved your Nokia N8s with its 12MP camera you'll love the Nokia 808 PureView with its 41MP camera and increased display and storage capacity. read more →
- Amazing camera
- Decent 720p output
- High quality audio
- No contract options
- Symbian nearing end
- Unprotected camera
- Bulky device
THIS IS A VERY GOOD SMARTPHONE HIGH QUALITY CAMERA AND MORE FASTER.
Nokia 808 Pureview has the best camera clarity. Faster than Nokia N8. The problem with N8 has been rectified in this phone. It restarts automatically when it hangs. Whereas, We have to wait for at least an hour or so to restart with N8.
And, its faster than any phone that Nokia has released yet.
This cameraphone is unbelievable when it comes to imaging! Photos and videos are so detailed that ir replaces almost every point and shoot camera!! According to tests, it even matches detail levels of the full-frame Canon 5D MarkIII SLR camera!
But the interface is probably what most people look at. Apps are lame and horrible...hard to find good apps...since im used to symbian and camera is my priority i dont mind using symbian
- Brilliant camera
- Brilliant microphone
- Laggy and slow
- Bulky and ugly
