Great phones are never good at just one thing. The Motorola MILESTONE 2 can do a lot and it can do it right for a lot of different users.
Therere not many negative things to say about the hardware we didnt quite like the slider and the 8GB of internal memory being limited to apps but thats it. read more →
- Quad-band GSM and dual-band 3G with HSDPA and HSUPA support
- 3.7" 16M-color capacitive touchscreen with WVGA (480x 854 pixels) resolution
- Scratch-resistant Gorilla glass
- One of the slimmest QWERTY side sliders
- TI OMAP3630 1GHz CPU, PowerVR SGX530 graphics accelerator; 512MB of RAM
- The internal 8GB of storage is for apps only
- Side sliding mechanism is not spring-assisted
- DivX and XviD playback has its issues
- Non hot-swappable microSD card slot
- No FM radio
We've got no qualms stating that this is our second favourite Android phone behind the HTC Hero. We know we've been comparing the Milestone to the Hero a lot in this test, but it's for good reason - they're both excellent Android phones.
The slick interface, the QWERTY keyboard, the premium build quality - all these things go into making the Milestone a decent phone. But it lets itself down at times by lacking any real differentiating features (apart from the cool phone portal) and that lip - well, the less said about it the better now. read more →
- Great browser
- Pinch and zoom multi-touch
- slick screen
- Judder free UI
- QWERTY keyboard
- Poor camera
- Unsightly lip below keys
- No Android overlay
- Industrial design
The Milestone 2 isn't a massive change over the original Motorola Milestone, but there are enough tweaks both internally and externally to make it a better phone all round.
The faster processor makes a world of a difference in general use and web browsing, making the Milestone 2 one of the slickest and least glitchy Android experiences around – although you have to turn off the Motoblur widgets to get it feeling consistently smooth. read more →
- Rock solid metallic body and keyboard
- Great, responsive screen
- Good camera, fantastic 720p video quality
- Fast, glitch free operation
- Some great media and connectivity features via Motoblur
- Tatty-looking, bloated Motoblur widgets
- Below average battery life
- Poor video file support
- Keyboard is a little too small for easy use
- Terribly clunky Motoblur Facebook and Twitter integration
To wrap up, we’re very fond of the Motorola MILESTONE 2. It's a good solid phone, but unfortunately not a great one. With the negatives mainly being MOTOBLUR's hard-wired integration and the keyboard being a touch flat for our taste. The screen is also not up to the standard found on the HTC Desire Z for example. The only tangible benefit of getting the Motorola MILESTONE 2 over HTC's alternative therefore, would be if you had a preference for the sliding mechanism over the hinge. read more →
- Solid build
- Usable QWERTY keyboard
- 720p HD video recording
