We had a great time reviewing the Motorola Flipout, we really did. Almost all apps have been spiked with social networking and the music player alone is good enough reason to consider ditching your dedicated MP3 player.
And really, the size is one of the main attractions of the phone. But theres no way around it there are a couple of potential deal breakers: the screen and the camera. read more →
- Exceptionally compact QWERTY messenger
- Quad-band GSM and quad-band 3G support (7.2 Mbps HSDPA; 2Mbps HSUPA)
- 2.8" 256K-color 320x240 pixel capacitive touchscreen; multitouch support
- Android OS v2.1 with MOTOBLUR UI v1.5
- Excellent social networking integration
- Poor display quality
- QVGA resolution limits the choice of apps
- Unacceptable camera issues from a retail test unit
- Uncomfortable grip for taking pictures
- 17mm thick is a bit much
The Flipout is a cure for the common Android device, but the oddball screen means it's not for power users. read more →
- Very comfortable keyboard
- Clear voice quality
- Responsive performance.
Motorola has followed up an improving range of Android devices with the lacklustre Motorola Flipout. While the Flipout carries many of the same software facets as the Defy – Motoblur, DLNA, connected media player, they're cramped into a small screen that makes it difficult to get the most from them.
We aren't convinced that the quirky physical design has a lot of traction, and the so-so quality of the physical keyboard doesn't help in that respect – nor does the build quality, which feels too plasticky to us. read more →
- Quirky design
- Connected music player
- Motoblur is a clever system
- Small overall size when closed
- Accessible microSD card slot
- Motoblur is cramped in the small screen
- Camera is poor
- Android 2.1 unlikley to be upgraded
- Physical keyboard is only so-so
- Web browsing is painful
We’ve really enjoyed reviewing the Motorola FLIPOUT. Its quirky design got it noticed wherever we went, usually for the right reasons. The fact it has the versatility of Android 2.1 under the hood made setting everything up and maintaining RSS feeds, social networks and emails a breeze. Having decent app support was also wonderful and made us appreciate Motorola's efforts in combining Google's OS with a phone of this form-factor. read more →
- Novel Design
- Very usable QWERTY
- Good music playback quality
- Motorola's Phone Portal works very well
- Low-res screen
- Poor Stills / Video capture
- Poor battery life
- 3D gallery interface stutters
The Motorola Flipout exceeds on some levels, but its unique design doesn't do it any favors as a touch-screen smartphone. read more →
- The Motorola Flipout has a roomy keyboard and a functional midrange feature set. Call quality is decent.
- The Motorola Flipout's display is too small for a touch-screen smartphone. The speakerphone is disappointing, the 3G connection is unreliable, and camera editing options are few.
